Need help with Genre's

Postby davdev on Wed Apr 05, 2006 11:26 pm

I am having a strange problem.

First of all, I am using the default skin

There is a search feature here where you can filter by genre. Most of the time this works out fine, but about 20 albums are being listed with their Artist name as a Genre. They are all tagged properly with the correct Genre, but for some reason it is not importing correctly.

For example, I used Music Match to tag 18 Bob Marley albums. These are all tagged with a genre of Reggae. When I import them to Xlobby though, the genre switches to Bob Marley on two of the albums, but the other 16 display fine.

This happens for a few artists and one thing I noticed is that all but one of the ones this is occuring too are "Greatest Hits" albums. I have no idea why this is occuring. I have re-tagged all the files and deleted the DB in XLOBBY and Re-imported and it is still occuring.

This is by no means a deal breaker problem, but it is a little weird, any ideas?

are all of the tracks on your greatest hits actually reggea? Alot of times compilations and greatest hits have independent id3 tags. And if one of the tracks is labeled other than reggae than it would throw the whole album. Are the years different as well on the greatest hits?

I use mp3 tag studio to ensure my id3 tags version 1, 2 are in sync and identical for a whole album.

What does the music database xml file say on the ones that dont fitler properly.

I'll have to check the XML when I get home, but yeah they are all tagged with the same genre. Musicmatch has a feature where you can highlight all the songs and just enter items such as "Artist", "Album" and "Genre" once and updates all the tages at the same time. I even tried changing all the tags and then setting them back and it didn't make a difference. They display fine is Musicmatch and in Windows Media Player, but something is happening when they are exported to Xlobby.

Something I just noticed. It is not actually just happening with just "greatest hits", it is occuring for any multiple disk set. For instance if I have Aerosmith greates hits and have seperate folders for disk 1 and 2, then it is showing Aerosmith as the Genre. It is not happening on anything that is only one disk

though even if I use Tag and Rename to look at the files the correct Genre shows up

Check out Xscan, as posted about by Dgemily in this thread. Maybe it will work better than the default Xlobby import.

Thanks, but Crossposts?

I posted this once here, and once on avsforum. That is not a crosspost. A crosspost would be if I posted in multiple Xlobby forums, which I did not.

My mistake. I must have been confusing your posts with a06lp's, to whom I was responding at the same time.

I have a problem though. I tried running this and got a Run Time 13 error

Any idea what that is?

you mentioned that your albums mess up when sets aerosmith as genre with multidisk. I think I know the problem. It is the template you used when you imported your music. did you select the view genre>artist>album by chance? If your music directory is set up in windows explorer how you want it just use the directory structure view and the id3 import.
