I don't know if I can explain it fully, but here goes a start:

Show ABC Overlay is used when you open up an overlay with a category. If looking at Colby's Event Variable document, though I don't fully agree with the description, it states to show the alphabet overlay. If you look at the input variables though, you should be tagging a category with the overlay.

Now I've tried to help out a gent one time who was having problems navigating in a overlay with a category and the command that opened the overlay was a simple show overlay. This was fixed when changing to show ABC overlay. The post is here:

In the Heavy Metal forum post, Natemere indicates this problem as well.

If a category is not to be used in an overlay, the show overlay command could be used just fine.

I hope this helps. Anyone else care to add?...or correct me if I'm wrong?

Well here's my setup. I just added a new PPC section and used the heavy metal PPC skin. On the music search part it had a search by artist already setup, I added buttons for album, track and genre so I could search/filter with them as well. I wanted different effects upon clicking on the results depending on what I searched by so I just made a different page for each of my search fields (artist, genre, album, and trackname). When I searched by track and clicked on a track it would automatically play the song and close the ABC overlay. Now I wanted to have it play the song and keep the overlay open so I could keep clicking songs to play them so I just added an event in that category (filterdetails) that would re-open the search page each time I clicked on a song. All worked fine and it even kept my place in the list, meaning if I clicked G before and played a song it was still in the G's but upon reopening the search page the "G" was not visible in the "Category>Input section and anything else I typed was invisible but DID work as in sorting thru the list, the only way to get it to show the text I typed was to reset the category. I changed the categories event from "Show ABC Overlay" to "Show Overlay" and the text in the Category>Input field was visible again.
I hope that makes sense!!!!

I was just wondering what negative effects this could have for me by using just a Show Overlay for a search page.
