File browser

Postby Hummenum on Sat Jul 10, 2004 11:41 am

Hi!

First of all, thanx to Steven for this great piece of software. =)

I'm quite new to Xlobby, and i'm trying to create a skin that suits my htpc. I'll post some screenshots as soon as they're ready to go public! :-)

I have one problem, though. I'm trying to create a file browser, that opens in a subdirectory of my harddisk - ex. C:\Media\Movies\.

In the default skin there's a file browser in the screen 'files'- but it just opens the C-drive. I've tried adding a 'folder browser' category to my own screen, but xlobby just crashes when i close the skin editor after pointing to my sub folder.

I do not wish to have a database for the movies, as i update them daily - and it would be a pain to update the databases manually each time i start my htpc. A simple file browser starting in a subfolder would be suitable.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Thats the old filebrowser your using I think, you have two options you can get the latest exe and try the new one.....which might be a bit buggy, or you can wait until the next major release which will have the new browser will an example screen on how it works.

here is the latest exe

Wo-hooo! :D

Works like a charm! Did'nt crash this time! Thanx alot, Steven!

Now, if it's possible to add a file type filter to the file browser, it would be very usefull. I store both movies and subs in the same folder, to make Vobsub autoload the subs - but theres no need to have the sub files on the list. Of course, i could make a workaround, but i think the filetype filter could be very usefull for other purposes.

Thanx again - saved my day! ;)

btw, any idea when the next major release will be?

I have thought of this also, still dont know if I will add it... for single files like clicking on a single avi or something sure thats easy...is this all you wanted?

Yes, kinda..

I would like to filter all but movie files - ie. .avi, .mpg. mpeg.

That's what i use the most.. but it's no prob, i can make a workaround, so i only keep the movie files in the folder, and the subs somewhere else.

But if you add the feature, it's cool! Thanks.

Hi Steven!

Works fine! (But so did the previous versions on launching files).

One more request for the file browser:

When you browse the specified folder, it doesn't show directories.. I'd really like that feature, which would be very useful if you have a folder with TV series - one folder for each TV show. Also, it should include the option to go up one folder level (by pressing the '..' at the top of the list).

I'm trying to create a skin, which doesn't use databases for selecting video files - only by easy file browsing. Would be a nice alternative for those complaining about multiple avi file-handling.

Hope this is possible - keep up the good work!!
