Film database

Postby Twizzle on Mon Aug 07, 2006 10:28 am

I have just setup Xlobby for the first time and so far so good. It has recognised all of my music and pictures and I have no problems playing / viewing them.

Films are another matter though.
I have several divx films in a folder and I have set it up through the Basic Settings to recognise the directory and pressed Import as I did with both music and pictures, but it only imports one file.
If I then drop back into Xlobby and select films, I am only shown one blank white square. If I select play, it does play the film (which is the first one in the list alphabetically) but will not display the name.
I cannot seem to get it to list / recognise any other films.

For better or worse, the way Xlobby wants to see you organize your video files is: one per directory, with the Title of the video being the name of the folder containing the video material.

For instance:

c:\videos\War of the Worlds\xxxx.dvx
and
c:\videos\Rashomon\rash.vob

(it doesn't really matter what the actual filename is)

I have found a way around this, so if you REALLY do not want to use the standard layout, you can do what I did.

I enter all my videos into DVD Profiler, then use jovial mood's DXC program to import them into the xlobby database *my* way.

Take a look at this thread if you are interested:

Or you can use Ant Movie Catalog (Freeware) and xAnt plugin to do the same...

Or if u wanna (or need for practical considerations) achieve results in constant effort instead linear methods these guys are suggesting (well not sure about ant though, but profiler method would demand effort proportional to your collection), u can always code simple program which eats directories and outputs xml...

I second using Ant and the xant plugin. I'm a convert from DVDprofiler. It gives you soooo much more control over what fields to import and lets you store your files however you want. (And there are other advantages I won't go into here). I think the French site has a good tutorial on setting up xant.
