lost ability to have multiple levels in video database

Postby billberet on Mon Dec 21, 2009 1:10 am

it's been a while since i added a new show/season, to my video database.
i have 2 levels deep, and when i go into the first level, the media player opens up, i cannot see the season of episodes.
The origional seasons are still working fine, i can drill down multiple levels. only the new shows are stuck showing the media player at the top level. this was an issue that was corrected in an earlier version of XL, I'm sure one of the updates might have overwrote the fix. I am currently running the latest version.

***edit***
the issue is only adding video_t files, avi files still open multiple directories deep.
only the shows that are video_t causes the media player to open on the top directory level

example
directory: family guy
Multiple sub directories as follows
sub directory \\family guy\season one\video_ts\video_ts.ifo
sub directory \\family guy\season two\video_ts\video_ts.ifo

when i click on the root family guy coverart, the media player displays, instead of the category items.

thanks again

I'll take a look, maybe post your database xml file so I can see what it looks like. You can post it in mantis if you don't want to post it here.

it's funny, i looked at the xml file.
they looked identical to other video's that have subcategories.

i currently removed them from the subcategories so i can watch them.
i will recreate it again, and post the xml.

***EDIT***

ok i did some research.
when i had more than one subdirectory, everything works fine.
when i had only one subdirectory that had video_ts as it's source, then i have the issue.
no problem, no need to fix it, i would always have more than one episode if i was going to go 2 levels deep.

thanks again

Except that if you want to create a folder with the first episode in a series, and for any reason you are starting-out with only one episode, then the problem will still occur unless you remember to temporarily use a "different" directory structure until you get the next episode, and even though you will probably always remember to change the directory structure, why have to worry about it. Also, if you have 2 episodes and you delete one - on purpose or by accident - then you will again have the problem. Seems like (IMO) it would be better to fix this "minor" bug than to have to remember to change directory structure when this comes-up again.
Put in Mantis?

i don't think there is a need for mantis.
the whole reason to have multiple subdirectories is because you have more than one video you want to group together.
if you only have one, then just put it one level deep.

For some reason I thought you had "automated" the directory creation process.
If you are placing the videos in their directories "manually" I agree: "no mantis."
