2 servers and PPC problems

Please help, the builders are coming soon and i need to make sure i have my plans sorted.

I am still yet to be totally convinced to use Xlobby over Mainlobby as it doesnt have 2 way communication with Homeseer, but maybe this might be the deal maker.

i have a 2 story flat, upstairs 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, i will be putting speakers in the ceilings of each.

Downstairs a kitchen, sitting room and toilet; i will have a plasma in the sitting room and the home cinema kit including a HCPC (for scaling and DVD playback under the stairs).

Music and films etc will be kept on a fileserver in a cupboard upstairs;

I would like to control the lot via PPC, but how i currently understand it, i would need to run two instances of Xlobby server, one up stairs and one down, with a PPC for each zone?


Also, Homeseer would be running the whole house from the same machine as Xlobby server upstairs, would i be able to switch between xlobby ppc and homeseer ppc easily?

And would i be able to switch between xlobby ppc downstairs (which is communicating with the hcpc, to homeseer ppc and communicate with the PC upstairs).


Finally, would all this be easier with mainlobby, as it integrates with homeseer properly.

For 2 servers, just set up 2 instances of the xlobby ppc client on your ppc, 1 for each server, its just a matter of altering the text file for the ip of each server. I know this works because I have exactly this working.

All it means for you if you have an upstairs and downstairs system is quit one client and restarting with the other one as you change floors, not a big deal, 2 button pushes and about 5-8 secs for the new client to connect.

Cheers Rhino that should make things a bit easier, although i will probably just end up get another PPC. It does mean that i will know how to easily swap between homeseer and xlooby.

Would this setup be easier with Mainlobby or netremote?

I haven't tried main lobby and only breifly tried netremote but I'm led to beleive that syncronised playback works best with xlobby, xlobby is much quicker to operate than main lobby, it would seem that homeseer support would be the only reason to use something other than xlobby.

Could xlobby not be made to start the homeseer program?

I believe so, however Mainlobby has two way communication
