Tv setup

Postby homepc on Tue Mar 20, 2007 3:36 pm

Can someone tell me how or where to look to setup my tv tuner? I did read some articles about XL not caring what type of card I have and as long as I can use K!TV, or XLTV it will work. I am so confused. How do I set this up?

thanks

There is nothing directly in Xlobby to do with configuring your TV card. However, if you decided to use xltv, see the link below:

http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5472

Inside the zip file that dgemily links to is a document to help in setting it all up.

Hope this helps.

Marbles_00, Thanks for your reply. I'm new to this stuff and I'm not too sure I completely understand. Your saying that XL replies on a third party software to run the TV tuner? Can I use any? I did follow the instructions for the XLTV, I got completely lost when it came to the part to use XLTV in screens. I guess I dont understand how to setup screens using XLTV. Any additional help would be greatful.

Thanks
Ray

Yep, it releys on thrid party software.

Xltv wraps up serveral cards or you can use your own and interagte it with your own skin.

For example i have a nebula tv card and use there software (its a great bit of kit). I have a few buttons to control it on my skin (main menu ect), and a copule of screens to make it look "part" of xlobby when not fullscreen.

I am sure this doesnt help much, but i thought i would say it :)

Speaking of TV.... I'm also new to TV on HTPC, since it was always easier just to turn on the real TV then do it on PC. True, there's no recording and such, but here in the Czech they synchronize movies to Czech, so who in his right sense would want to record anything in other than original language of the movie, right? :-)

Anyway... I'm about to get one, after all (guess I'm out of "projects") :-) SO I was wondering what options do I have? Software wise? I suppose that the s/w shipped with the card will be crap, so I'd appreciate if someone could list most popular programs (including XLobby plugins)?

Regards,

D.

Mr. Pittaway is correct.

Basically you have to look at it in two parts. The first part is using the xltv plugin and integrating it to work with your card. Which the instructions in the link above should outline (been a while since I looked at it).

The second part is to integrate the plugin within Xlobby. This is done by either modifying an existing skin, or building up your own. My suggestion is to use an existing skin and change it accordingly. I think, this is the point your at. The key thing here is understanding the Setup/Events window. This is where you create events and tie commands to them. Commands are grouped together, so the group you'd be most interested in is the plugin group most likely.

The other thing to skinning is understanding the Pause/Break Skinning window, and attaching events to buttons.

There are four documents that you should read up on:

http://xlobby.incolby.com/Skinning_Xlob ... obby3.html
This guide will teach you the fundamentals of skinning in Xlobby.

http://www.xlobby.incolby.com/EventVariableSheet2.htm
This is a list of commands that can be used in Xlobby. Very handy for the avid skinner to have open while working on their skin.

http://www.xlobby.com/files/jowaldo/doc ... /index.htm
Though you may be beyond this, it is still worth a read.

http://www.xlobby.com/files/badabing/fi ... _Guide.pdf
Though this guide is geared for Buddabing's KISS skin, it has some great tips that can be associated with any skin

The last bit of advice, play around. Learn how to create events by adding commands, then open the skin editor and applying these events to a button or category. The other thing, look at skins that have things that your trying to accomplish and see how those skins have tied things together. Basically, I think the French Team put together the xltv plugin, look at one of their skins to see how they have used it. I also think Buddabing has used it in one of his skins, so again, it may be worth looking at how it is used in his skin (Buddabing has great skins to learn off of).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your help!! I will try to follow the instructions and create the screens myself. Does anyone know of a skin that uses the XLTV plugin? I'd like to see how someone else has it setup and modify it for my own.

Also, I'd love to include a weather plugin......any ideas?

Thanks

Thank you all so much for all your help! I have made great strides in personalizing my own XL thanks to you all! I still dont have the XLTV plugin to completely work but I do understand it more. I also now have a better understanding of how the XL engine works.

I have many other questions running through my head, like how does the movie database connect to the movies I have on my hard drive? Is it by name?

You all have been extremely helpful! And all the documentation is well worth the read!

thanks

I found the zip. that is what I was looking at before to learn about XLTV. But I didn't realize that there was a SKIN there also.....thanks.

If I have the XLTV plugin configured correctly, should the skin work without modifications?

Ok, no that the TV works, I need to get the EPG to work. I cant seem to use the one provided in XLTVConfig.exe. Under the tuners tb, when I select the K!TV and click load, under the K!TV Channels they all say 1:<NO PDC> throught 90:<NO PDC>. When I try to move them over to the XLTV side, all I see there is KTV.<NO PDC>.

Under the EPG tab, I have no idea what URL is my service. Is there a way to find this out? In the meantime, I used a program called XMLTV GUI to download my channels in a XML format. I'm not sure wht name XL wants the file in and where I should put it. Just as a test, I named the file, epg.xml, data.xml, and xltv.xml and I put all three in the plugins\xltv\xmltv folder. Now when I start XL, during the loading process it gets and error at, "Building Guide: Data" and gives me this reason:

System.InvalidOperationException: <xtvd xmlns='urn:TMSWebServices'> was not expected.
at Microsoft.Xml.Serialization.GeneratedAssembly.XmlSerializationReadertv.Read28_tv()

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
