what does 'add sub-item' do?

When I press F2, and edit a DB, I try to 'add sub-item'. I was hoping it would add entries to a sub-menu, but all it seems to do is destroy the DB I am editting.

What don't I understand about this function?

it adds child item for db-item. u need to have parent-to-be item selected when clicking it.

If what u r set to achieve is to add fields for database items, there are separate set of buttons for this: For adding, field to single item, all items, and for items in specific depth. Unfortunality adding to certain depth doesnt seem to operate correctly.
