Couple of things relating to music on PPC

Postby MacReady on Fri Nov 12, 2004 12:29 am

Im going to be putting a PC in my car boot, with a pocket PC for control via WIFI.

Ive edited the ppcmusic screen to the way Id like it, but Im stuck on a couple of things, and would like a bit of help :)

Ive set it up so that when you click on an album, it plays it. But Id also like it to take you to the ppcmusiccontrol screen.

Secondly, Id like to setup my music folder structure like this:

Code: Select all
Artist
     Album

And then have an image of the artist in the artist folder, then when you click on the artist it takes you to their albums, which would have a picture in each folder. Then you can click on the album, it starts playing it, and takes you to the ppcmusiccontrol screen.

For example:

Id be looking for Muse.

So I select Muse (which would have a thumbnail as well as text)

Which would take me to their albums.

Then Id select Showtime (which would have a thumbnail as well as text)

Which would take me to the ppcmusiccontrol screen, and start playing the album.

MacReady, you need to attach a goto event on your ppc "music" category. This is done in the skin editor.
While in the skin editor mode on your "ppc music" screen, click on an album. That should select the "music" category. Now go to the Event tab and add a "goto ppcmusiccontrol" event. (ofcourse you must first have a "goto ppcmusiccontrol" event in the event manager. Let me know if you don't know how to create this). That's it! What this process does then is to transfer you to the ppcmusiccontrol screen whenever you click on an album. Sorry, but I can't help you with the other stuff. I'm not smart enough yet!

To be able to import your music like this

artist>
album

You'd have to import your music in a different way. Hit f2 and go to the databases tab. Delete your old music db, then go to the import tab, and choose music as the type of media you want to import, and on the right enter the name of the db to import this to (music) and the path of your music.

At the bottom there should be some options of how to import it, just choose the layout that you want. When you choose the type you want, remember that you will need a "up level" button in your skin, because if you click on a artist and see their albums, but want to go back to the list of artists, you will need that button.

Hope that helps, let me know if I wasn't too clear ;)

That worked perfectly hjackson.Thanks :)

jowaldo, it's worked in a way. But the problem now is that when I click on an artist it takes to me to the ppcmusiccontrol screen, then when I click back it takes to me the view of the artists albums.

But when I click on an album, there aren't any tracks.

When I imported the database in the new way, I selected Custom > Container, as it was the only way it would import it right.
