Help each other out

mp3 import

Postby dalanik on Thu Sep 16, 2004 8:26 am

OK, it's time I ask the stupid question :-)

I'm finally getting to the stage in which I'm trying to import all of my mp3's into XLobby (until now I only imported small portion for testing purposes).

There about 10.000 mp3s. I'm pretty sure my tags are pretty much OK, but whenever I import i get all sorts of mixups, mostly organization as "artist - various albums" or such.

What do I need to do in order to have either:

artist - album
or
artist
artist - album

structure?

I really don't care much which, I just want to have each ALBUM in a different "container". Well... maybe I'd prefer the 2nd option, where there are artists subfolders at root and then albums folders for that artist inside...

Does my directory structure on the disk have to follow this logic as well? Or are only ID3 tags used to achieve this?

I.e. now I have
Supertramp
Album1 - 01 - Song.mp3
Album1 - 02 - Song.mp3
Album1 - 03 - Song.mp3
Album2 - 01 - Song.mp3
Album2 - 02 - Song.mp3
Album3 - 01 - Song.mp3
Toto
Album1 - 01 - Song.mp3
Album1 - 02 - Song.mp3
Album1 - 03 - Song.mp3
Album2 - 01 - Song.mp3
Album2 - 02 - Song.mp3
Album3 - 01 - Song.mp3
Journey
Album1 - 01 - Song.mp3
Album1 - 02 - Song.mp3
Album1 - 03 - Song.mp3
Album2 - 01 - Song.mp3
Album2 - 02 - Song.mp3
Album3 - 01 - Song.mp3
...

etc.

DO I need to reorganize my folder structure like this:

Supertramp
Album1
01 - Song.mp3
02 - Song.mp3
03 - Song.mp3
04 - Song.mp3
Album2
01 - Song.mp3
02 - Song.mp3
Toto
Album1
01 - Song.mp3
02 - Song.mp3
03 - Song.mp3
Album2
01 - Song.mp3
02 - Song.mp3
03 - Song.mp3
Album3
01 - Song.mp3
02 - Song.mp3
03 - Song.mp3

In order to get the folders right?

Any help appreciated.... I'd hate to have to re organize everything only to find out it wasn't necessary :-)

I was having the same problem with various artist /albums. I had to edit my tags to include album and artist, because if just one is different xlobby will label it as various.

And remember:

"Aerosmith"
"aerosmith"
" Aerosmith"
" aerosmith"
"AeroSmith"
"aeroSmith"
"Aerosmith "
"aerosmith "

Are all different to xlobby. I spent hours going in circles untill i realized there was a space after the album name on some tracks which caused xlobby to name them various.

The basic rule i use is - If xlobby labels it various and its not then u have a tag problem.

Later
Simon.

Yeah, I know about upper/lower case and such. I was mostly unclear about whether each album has to be in it's own subfolder. So I'll do that now and re create database....

Thanx!
