XNet using loopback address ?

Postby badubo on Tue Jul 26, 2005 2:08 am

Hello,

Is it possible to use the localhost (127.0.0.1) IP as XNet server?
The purpose is to start a xlobbysd.exe on the same computer (but on a second monitor) in order to have xlobby on the TV output and xlobbysd on a touchscreen.

Actually, we can connect using the ethernet address but it seems to consume many resources (mainly due to refresh rate). I guess that a connection using the loopback address can probably allow better performances

as far as I know they are exactly the same, everyone that wanted this wants it because they dont have an ethernet card?

I guess started xlobby2sd on the secondary monitor should be allowed maybe???

Its not an ethernet card issue, purely a performance one. It would be cool though to be able to automaticlly point the client to start on a second or third monitor.

For the performance issue, I thought that the loopback was better than using the ethernet adress but may be you are right, it will may be the same.

The drawback of using xlobbysd and xlobby on the same computer is that you use a large amount or resource only to refresh the screens.

There is also a problem regardings the use of plugins (getvariable) when xlobby is not inthe same screen but we will make more tests and return to you

what about if xlobby would allow more than one instance? imho that would be better than one fat and one thin client on one pc.

Bringing up an old thread......is anyone doing this??? Does it really take up that much in resources???

Thanks,
Scott
