pc games & xlobby - next steps?

Postby greg*o on Sun Jun 05, 2005 8:34 pm

Just started with Xlobbby and have had great success over the last week. I have been able to load movies, music, cover art, foobar - this is a great tool.

I am running into a wall with my next step of loading EA Sports games - football, hockey, etc.

1) I think I need a new skin (Heavy Metal) that already has game buttons. This makes more sense that trying to build my own skin.

2) Getting around having to put the game disk in the computer each time. Is an emulator the way around this problem? In looking at MAME, it seems like emulators are more for arcade roms.

3) Where could I get cover art for these titles?

Thanks for helping me down the path.

About your games. Are they cd roms you have? if so I would mount them with deamon tools. If they are games for a particular system (ie.NES, or Sega, arcade)you would use an emulator. You can create a custom db, and category for these games. What is the file extension? As far as coverart, If you have a only a few I would scour the net for the images. If nothing else just scan the coverart from the cd roms you have. You can associate coverart and screenshots to every db entry if you would like.

Thanks for helping me go in the right direction.

I went back to a couple of posts on games and was able to pick up the same daemon tools tip. I was able to download and in reading the faqs went out to pick up alcohol 120 as well.

I have just loaded daemon tools and will work my way through that process.

I think I understand your custom db comment, does this automatically gen a select button on the main screen?

I will also poke around the net for art.

Thanks again

Since 6 month we (French team) started to work on an application to scan your roms then build automatically, databases ready to use in xlobby, with maximum information about your roms and also coverart/screenshot of your roms…

The application is close to be finish. It’s already working for mame roms ( you can ask Naylia, he tried it). We need to finish a part to identify your roms for NES, SNES, SMS, N64, GB, GB color, GBA, Sega Genesis : we found a solution, but it was not easy.

So, we still finish some others applications and then we will finish the part of this application to finally publish it. So if you can wait again, you will have less work to build your databases.

Later,

...and it's freakin awesome. but sorry guys I won't be releasing a 'my games' addon to XLobbyMC 'til these guys have finished. It's a great plugin and I want them to have the time to finish so it can be done right the first time.

With regards to pc games, some of the skins have pages already built in or you can make your own simple page to add to a skin that just has a database of pc games. The number of pc games probably is not too huge so you can build a database of info by hand pretty easily.

Thanks for the help, I have been able to get games on the pc.

dgemily / naylia - I will wait for you to complete your projects? Any idea on how long this might take?

Until then I will work on getting a Pronto remote and setting up some screen menus. Any suggested links to read?

Thanks again

the big part of this application is finished but I can't tell you when it will be completely finished (should be soon...)

Until then I will work on getting a Pronto remote and setting up some screen menus. Any suggested links to read?

for your remote, try Xremote, it's new plugin : http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=20560#20560

Any chance of getting an early version to play with? I only need it for
MAME, and it sound like that's already working. I've been playing with
rom_to_xml, which seems to be working OK so far, but if you've got a
complete solution I'd really like to give it a go.

dgemily,

How close is that application for setting up game roms for Xlobby. Any chance that I could be a beta tester for you? I'm currently setting up a game screen for my skin and would love to try it out. I mostly use MAME but I would like to try it with my SNES emulator too.

We "again" change our mind in the aim of doing a very simple application to use.
We need to build a tool, but I can’t do it myself, so badubo will do it, but he is very very solicited by us, and the problem with our forum did not change the way….
