What software player are you using?

Postby websphere on Mon Jan 31, 2005 11:44 pm

So far I have tried the following...

VLC Media Player - works nice but does not have a close command line option to close the player when it is done playing the video.

Media Player Clasic - this also works nice, it does have a close command but it doesn't work due to MPC not finding the end of the video.

Before spending money on the commercial ones, I was wondering what others were useing and if they had close commands. I as because the ones listed in the file types dialog, don't seem to have them either (Theatertek nor Zoom Player).

I'm looking into it also.

I need to play DVD .vob files so the Zoom Player standard is not good enought and the professional is $20. I am willing to spend the money but wants to make sure it works. Also, can it easily allow me to change audio channnel/balance? Left / Right stereo.

ZoomPlayer does have a close command, I believe it is /Q but check their list of commands on their site to be sure. I think it was worth the $20 especially due to the high level of support between it and xlobby.

Well I got VLC Media player to close after it is finished with a DVD.

The parameters I am using are

dvdsimple://"%path%" -f --volume 1024 vlc:quit

play the dvd without menus, fullscreen, volume at max, and quit after playing.

This plays the ifo of the dvd, which as been re-authored using dvd shrink to only include the video and the english audio tracks.

The VLC app does appear on the screen at start up for a very short time, but I can live with that.

Now I need to create a new page so I can play my TS files!

I'm using Zoomplayer 4.10 Beta 2 with Dscaler Video Decoder, FFDSHOW, and Nvidia Audio Decoder. PQ is incredible.

I use ZoomPlayer Professional, latest version, but have been using it for years and would say any version 4 or above is fine, even 3 worked very well.

That is without a doubt the best player, no need to pay for the professional version, the free one is just as good for our needs.

For playback it is all about the codecs.
Things like VLC use their own codecs bundled into the app, which is OK, but no where near as good in terms of picture quality as you can achieve with the best codec and a great player wrapper.

The only codec you really need to pay for is the DVD decoder, although you can get free ones of those. All your codec needs can be filled from this site
http://www.doom9.org/

I personally use these codecs:
for DVD Mpeg2 video - Sonic CinePlayer 1.5
for DVD Dolby/DTS sound - CyberLink PowerDVD PRO 6
DIVX, XVID - FFDshow (latest, always keep this updated)

Also, check the easy to follow guide to setting up zoomplayer with version 4. After install it scans your PC for codecs then provides a link to their web site telling you how to configure everything in simple terms. Look out for the SVCD section, very useful.

and yes, it has millions of options, 1 of which is 'close at end of playing file', all of these are configurable by the UI.

Also check out ffdshows other features, it is not just a MP4 codec, far from it, it has hundreds of tweaking utilities in it, on a powerful machine it is great. I use a 1280x720 projector and apply 2 post process comb filters to the DVD image processed out of CinePlayer codec with amazing results.

I'm interested in setting up MPC for XL. Could you share with me how you got it to integrate like Zoomplayer is able to?
