How to add IR command on startup?

Postby rungabic on Sun Mar 13, 2005 10:15 pm

Again, I've searched the forum to no avail, trying to figure out how to have XLobby send an IR command I've already learned (with the USBUIRT) when XLobby starts up.

A post I found by Steven suggested that I'm supposed to add the IR command as a "trigger" to the skin's startup group. I tried to add the IR command as a trigger to the "startup/at startup toggle" event in Baddabing's KISS skin, but it doesn't seem to be working (and if I quit & restart XLobby and then go back into the event manager, I see the IR trigger is still there, but it appears to have forgotten the IR alias & command).

Anyway, this may all be wrong, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brent

Hi

I think you may be getting confused

A trigger is a command received by Xlobby to make Xlobby do something

What I think you are after is a command to transmit IR to make something else do something

This is available under the command tab

I have noticed when going back to IR triggers and maybe IR commands as well the alias and command are missing so no you are not mistaken on that issue (doesn't stop it working though)

Yes -- well, actually, I probably just misread Steven's post, since I do think I want an IR command and not a trigger. (and thanks for validating that those "missing" aliases and commands are a bug)

But can you give me the idiot's step-by-step to making one of my IR commands fire automatically upon launching XLobby? I'm really poking around in the dark here...

Thanks,
Brent

Hi

I have just checked there is no problem on the command displaying the details when returning to them only the triggers. I will post a bug report.

Start Xlobby
Press F2
Go to the events tab
Expand the Skin section
Click on startup
Click New Event
Give it a name
Go to the commands section on the right
Expand IR (3rd from bottom)
Click on command
Enter alias and command in the boxes that are below
Click add
Close the setup box with the X (top right)
Restart Xlobby
Does it work?

Tim,

Thanks for the step-by-step, but it didn't work!

I followed your directions precisely (which were pretty much what I had tried to do on my own before, blindly).

When in the event manager, I can successfully click "test" & the IR command fires off fine..........but then when I exit & restart XLobby, the USBUIRT never blinks and never does squat.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again,
Brent

I apologize if I'm stating the obvious, but timwarner's instructions didn't
include actually giving your event a trigger. If you want your event to
happen whenever you start Xlobby, then choose the event you just
created, the click on the Triggers tab, then the Event tab. Then click
on the Startup button.

Sorry

Hi

I didn't try it with an IR event. I tested my method with a xlobby command. Sorry I wasted your time, I though it would work the same.

The method erikt explained is so simple. I am sure it will work

Tim

Sorry again

erikt,

No, you weren't stating the obvious at all -- now it works! (I knew I had read something about having to use a trigger.)

Thank you to you & Tim for helping me out here.

A related question, is there some actual significance to adding my event with the IR command into the "startup" group of the skin, or could it actually be anywhere (as long as I associated it with the startup trigger)? I'm just trying to get a feel for how the event manager works...

Tim,

No waste of time at all -- you got me half the way there & erikt got me the other half.

But again, regarding my question in my last post:

"is there some actual significance to adding my event with the IR command into the "startup" group of the skin, or could it actually be anywhere in the event manager tree (as long as I associated it with the startup trigger)?"

Thanks,

Hi Brent,

I didn't answer right away, because I'm not 100% sure, but I don't
think there is any significance to the Event groups. They are only there
for logically grouping thing to help you manage large numbers of Events.

Thanks -- I bet you're right -- guess I can always move them to another group to test out that theory...
