I’ve seen some retro skins in other forums and thought that I’ll try to make one for xlobby. Since making a whole skin takes allot of time i would appreciate some feedback on this.
So here is another one for you to judge
Good or bad all are welcome.

Update: 20060816

Thanks fore all feedback. Sorry it took so looooong.

HERE you can download the first version (with out completed TV-screens)
You will need THIS fonts installed.

Some info to get you started:
This skin is 1024x768
Plugins used are;
CDEX
XMoveWindow
XMpc (save xresource-progressbar.png (in buttons folder) as xmpc.png (in plugin folder)
XoapWeather
XLTV
USB-UIRT
Search the forum if you don’t have them installed.

You might want to change the names of skin users (4 different) to get the right names in favourites:
Image
This is done by simply open favorginal.png (found in buttons folder) with your favourite button editor.
Image
Ad names to the bottom (font used are SF Movie poster) and replace favrickard.png, favhelena.png, favanton.png and last favvalter.png (in buttons folder)
Remember to save as these names or your new names won’t be shown in the skin.

There is a known graphic bug in the menu. If you use a mouse and hover fast up and down in the menu the arrow graphics don’t level.
Image
But if you use arrow keys or remote this bug don’t show...
Tips to fix this are welcome. I’ve tried every thing i could come up with even show the menu in an overlay.

Update: 20061116

Tips and tricks:
If you want to run this skin, stretched, in any resolution, even 16:9 wide.
just download THIS new background and in vintage skin backgrounds folder change backmenu.jpg
Now you also have to open and edit every .xml screen file. Search and replace :<keepaspectratio>True</keepaspectratio> with <keepaspectratio>False</keepaspectratio>
Done, now you can run vintage skin in any resolution. (This works with any skin)

Anybody how want to tweak this skin or "borrow" some buttons for there own skin are free to do so as long as your work not is for commercial use (outher than xlobby  )

Have fun and feedback is always welcome

Wow Rika you are an amazing artist. I don't like the white band at the top but everything else is crazy cool!

Does the broadcast pointer move, depending on what you select?

I agree with scandal, the "glass" look at the top should go as you are trying to focus on the skin as if it was a piece of vintage "tube" electronics. If you are trying to portray it as a glossy wooden curve at the top of a wooden chassie, then I would lessen the gleem effect somewhat. Currently it somewhat distracts from the overall effect of the skin. Other than that, it is a great looking start.

I'm interested to see how you incorporate modern technology of DVD choosing into a "vintage electronic" skin. Should be very cool indeed.

This is one I'll be waiting eagerly to try out. Keep up the good work.

*EDIT* Actually, looking at it more, I'd almost do away with the "My Pictures" text at the top of the page, maybe move it into that gray window with the appropriate image. Lessen the glass look and make the top bar more "wooden" like the lower. Something to think about and I'm still very impressed with the start.

Nice menu. It would be interesting to see how you would go about doing the rest of the skin and maintain the feel. I say more red, less gold. Add some vacuum tubes. lose the top glossy bar, make it wood or burlap. Go for it.

I prefer the clean look that rika has going...it looks very rich and tasteful. I think your tube idea may look nice as a part of the tv module but not the opening screen. I do think the wood panel at the top would look sweet instead of the fadeaway. Otherwise I love everything about it so far!!!

Thanks all for feedback!!

Yes offcourse, i can see that the glossy bar should go now. You tend to get blind doing this...

Yes 8)

Hmm, yes, i´ll see what i can do.

Yes you are right. Do we need a text telling you that when chosing pictures, you can see pictures? :?

I was thinking  that instead of using the standard sound files (clicks and pops) when performing functions, you could do something like a broadcaster's voice announcing things. The voice could be modified to sound like a 1950's AM broadcast...with crackles and tubehum and all. Way 8) .

I´v change the top (see first img), i thought that a text field could be useful for weather and some info so i didn´t make it copletly in wood... ok?

I´v started with the music screen and maked that a jukebox like screen. Maby it got a little bit to much?
