Newbie needs help - can't change skins

Postby flachbar on Thu Mar 16, 2006 4:30 pm

Hi,

I am just trying xlobby for the first time - installed, imported some audio files, and everything looks fine. Then I downloaded a few new skins and extracted them into the skin directory (with the correct directory stucture). Now if I go into the setup with F2 and onto the skin page, I can see and select any of the new skins, but when I click on the button to restart xlobby, it always comes back with the default skin.

I spent a long time searching through the forums to see if this has been answered somewhere, but couldnt find anything ... Am I missing something ?

Thanks,
Dirk

Double check your directory structure. Sounds like you might be having the same problem solved in this thread.

Thanks,
I will double check as soon as I get home, but I am pretty sure that the directory structure for the new skins is exactly the same as for the default one, corresponding to

xlobby_dir/skins/default/sounds
xlobby_dir/skins/default/resources
xlobby_dir/skins/default/...
...

it is e.g.

xlobby_dir/skins/artefact/sounds
xlobby_dir/skins/artefact/resources
xlobby_dir/skins/artefact/...
...

But I will check again. Is there anything else I need to do when installing a new skin, besides unzipping it into the skins direcory ?

Thanks,
Dirk

Depends on the skin. Some need specific fonts, helper apps, plugins, etc. That would be outlined in the skin thread. But as far as basic installation with Xlobby, No. You just need your folders in the right place.

I think some of the new skins require .Net 2.0. So make sure you have that as well as the latest .exe installed too.

Well, if I remember correctly the latest xlobby.exe itself actually asked me to install .NET 2.0 (I only had 1.1 installed ...). The first time I installed xlobby2prerelease1.zip, but I couldnt import any music files, the import just hung at 0% ... Then I installed .Net 2.0 and downloaded the latest executable, and the import problem was gone.

I double checked again, the directory structure for the new skins is exactly the same as the default one ...

Now, I went on and installed Xlobby on two other machines. On the second one the skin change works fine, but on the third one I get the exact same problem.

Is it possible that Xlobby has problems with certain other Software installed ? I dont see any commonalities between the two systems which could cause that though ... Any chance to turn on some kind of debug logging for Xlobby which might give more info ?

It' definetly not a problem with the skin itself, I removed the default skin and renamed the folder of the new skin to "default", and Xlobby starts up nicely with the new skin ...

Thanks,

Dirk
