Probably like many others here I was faced with running a long VGA cable because my HTPC is located in the wiring closet and my LCD in the kitchen. I searched the web for long runs of VGA cable and they are quite expensive especially given that I need one about 50' long.
I found a post on the AVS forum where someone made a VGA cable out of sheilded cat5. I followed the instructions and viola it worked. I now have a 50' homemade VGA cable for about $12. I am suprised at how clear the picture is. There is a little ghosting but that is probably due to the fact that I suck at soldering. I recommend to anyone looking at buying a long VGA cable to try this homemade cable out first. All credit goes to the OP....
