Newbie - Can't add Winamp.exe to Foobar\Winamp Zones

Help each other out

Postby bashkan on Tue Dec 13, 2005 11:00 am

I am using XP Pro SP2. Winamp version is 2.79 (I tried 5.09 and 5.07 without success) And yes winamp is functioning on its own normally.
And I am the admin of my pc because I am the enterprise admin of all our organization.
Well I guess you are right about uninstalling .Net because that's the only thing left that I have not uninstalled (except the OS itself)

The best HTPC I found didn't work for me.........

Man Bashkan what termoil. :(
A couple of things, I assume you have tried.

1. after downloading xl prerelease, then overriding with xl2 goto setup menu and download tab and download list. Then download both the XL files. Then you will install. This will bring XL to the current release upon restart. If the download list are red dots then its not up to date.

2. When installing winamp, are you modifiying the install or anything? Is winamp installed in the common, C:/Program Files/Winamp or is it off somewhere else? Are you installing winamp agent?

I have never seen Xl not allow one to add a player/zone. When XL is working correctly, winamp should automatically start upon load of xl. The playlist will only ever show 2 tracks, although in XL it shows the whole playlist. If you are starting Winamp b4 XL or manually loading it XL will not communicate with it.

Where is your Winamp Files Located?
If in C:\Program Files\Winamp\Winamp.exe

Move the Winamp Directory to C:\Zones\Zone1\winamp.exe

I had a problem where it wouldnt work and i found out that the Space in 'Program Files' sometimes confuses Xlobby

Colby;
I have tried 1 without success (all nodes are green). My winamp is installed in C:\Program Files\Winamp. And yes I have installed winamp agent and it's seen on the task bar.
I tried what GFORCE suggested and copied winamp.exe to C:\xlobby to prevent posible outcome of spaces in the path. But no result :(
Its really odd that when I edit the xml file and manually add winamp as art suggested; Winamp also loads when xlobby loads. I can even remove it from zones with the remove button. But I can not add it back.
I really can't understand what the problem is. I tried the whole setup on my friend's computer and my computer at home, the result is same.
One thing I am wondering is; Althpugh I have Windows XP Pro English as my OS, my regional settings are set to Turkish/Turkey. Maybe Xlobby does not like it.
Do you know any Turks using Xlobby?

New user here. I'm having a problem getting foobar to work. All xlobby updates installed. When xlobby comes up it starts foobar but it will not play anything. Xlobby appears not to be talking to foobar. It does talk to winamp but I was wanting to use foobar because I was using winamp for another isolated zone. Tried different skins and the default skin. Still no control of Foobar even though it brings foobar up. If I go to foobar while Xlobby is running I can press play and it will play music but it will only play what I pull up with Foobar. The music I pull up with Xlobby does not get passed to it. I looked in the xlobby-setup-plugins and do not see a foobar plugin. I moved Foobar program to another directory and changed Xlobby setup to use the new one. I have made copies of the directory Foobar-plugins and placed it in plugins and in the root directory of Xlobby. Still no go.

I have tried everything discussed above. Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks, Tom :)

Well, I am also having problem with winamp. I've had it working for such a long time and now all of a sudden it stopped to work. I don't have any problem adding winamp zone and in fact, winamp starts as soon as xlobby boots but it does not play the music. I have tried several different skins and different versions of winamp without any results. Did anyone find a solution to this problem.

OK. I got it to work after I went to winamp 2.8 (Lite) version. It does not seem to like other versions (3.0 & 5.09 to be specific). I am not sure why this happened but I can swear that it was working with 5.09 before.

I found that I could only get Foobar to work by putting it in my Xlobby directory. If I left it in C:\Program Files\foobar2000 then Xlobby would load Foobar but not play anything. For me there was two things I had to do. Make a copy of Foobar in my Xlobby directory AND place the foobar stuff (msvcr71.dll & foo_xloppy.dll) in the correct spot. In my case it was

j:\Xlobby\foobar2000\msvcr71.dll
j:\Xlobby\foobar2000\components\foo_xlobby.dll

After that Foobar loaded and played.

Based on my experience with Foobar maybe there are a couple of dll's that have to be placed in the Winamp directory for it to work correctly. Also noticed that on the last update of Winamp it changed all my sound settings to back to my first sound card and not the one that it was previously set too. You may want to check that..

just a couple of thoughts.
