Random screensaver problem

Postby rembetis on Sat Dec 03, 2005 3:43 pm

I'm using Xlobby with a touchscreen lcd and an HDTV (for playing movies). The touchscreen is the primary monitor, the HDTV is secondary. For the most part, when the touchscreen is not in use, a clock screen saver pops up. However, sometimes it just stops working (meaning the screenplayer does NOT come on) and I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason for why. I have Zoomplayer configured to NOT block a screensaver, so that's not the problem. If I go into my display settings and reapply the screensaver settings, everything works fine for a while but inevitably something happens to turn the screensaver off or keep it from coming on.

Any ideas?

Windows is usually rubbish and multi-monitor screen savers.

Are u sure the clock is not just coming on the HDTV and not the LCD. I used the pictures screensaver and kept getting random black screens. Took me about a week to relise that when the LCD was black the picture was actually bieng displayed on TV (which was either off or tuned to a channel)

Later
simon.

Also are u sure that any other app is not running in the background that is stopping the screensaver from working.

This is the most likely scenario. And not necessary a recognizably running app, but one which didn't shut down properly. Thing is, I'm not sure what apps, or kind of apps, keep the screen saver from coming on. I thought it had more to do with keyboard/mouse clicks than running apps...

I have found that random acts of ongoing apps and reseting configurations are often times related to illeagle copies and cracks of software. :)

Strange, I am running a similar setup, but my screensaver works okay. Maybe you could try and app like Ultramon or something.

While I won't claim to have never downloaded "extended" trial versions of apps, the only things running on my HTPC are either open-source, free, or apps I paid for. Oh and thanks for the vote of confidence...

I have just started experiencing exactly the same thing on my setup.
I recently installed an ADSL modem so I am wondering if the culprit might be something to do with that.

Well, it looks like the problem (for me at least) can be traced to Zoomplayer. Watching a movie seemed to cause it, and I just found a post on the Inmatrix forum that describes my problem perfectly. Unfortunately, the suggested solutions are either way too convoluted or won't apply in a multi-monitor situation (I had already experimented with using a command line app to reapply the screensaver settings during a movie but that overrides Zoomplayer's setting and blanks the screen on the secondary monitor when initiating the screensavaver on the primary).

So, just out of curiosity, Colby if you read this, do you use Zoomplayer and do you never have a problem with the screensaver coming on the primary monitor during a movie?
