Screen Saver?

Postby Bill Lott on Sat Dec 27, 2008 1:50 pm

xLobby stays on top and will not let the computer go into screen saver mode. I suspect I'm missing something obvious, but ...

Any suggestions?

I just came across a dimming screensaver on the Homeseer forum and want to use it on my xLobby screens. It would be a nice effect to have the screens dim after a set time... But I can't get xLobby to cooperate.

Thanks.

Maybe the xEvent plugin will work for ya? Run an executable (screensaver) after a set down time? There's an xEvent command variable to "Add Inactivity Event", which is what I think you need.

I'll give that a try. I was hoping there was a setting in xLobby that would prohibit it from always being "on top". If not hopefully the plugin will force it.

Yeah, I'm not too sure as I've just used the xEvent plugin to shut down my music-server at a pre-determined time.

yea i have the same issue for my Q1 tablet.
i don't like the fact that it stays on all the time, the screen won't turn off and it gets real hot if it's on all day.

i'll try it out too.
i'm running V3 so hopefully it will let me run it.

I am not having an issue with screen saver on my XL3 (latest) on Win2003 server. I set it to 1 min and it works fine and recovers with a touch screen tap.

I also use a small windows program that runs as a service call "Auto Power On". It hibernates my server at 11:30pm and wakes it up in the morning automatically. I used it on XP and now on Server 2003 with no issues. It is nice not to waste power and also spin the drives off too. It has some other features I dont use but some may like them. It is inexpensive @$25.

Just an FYI that you may run into other problems in the future running XL on Win2003 Server as Microsoft does not provide many of the DirectX and video display updates that XP and Vista regularly get. If you don't use any video tuner cards on your system then you should be ok but if you plan on using a TV tuner card then steer clear of MS Server software.

PhilB,

I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Screen saver works fine except when I have xLobby running. When xLobby is the computer will not go into screen saver. bummer.
