I have a Windows ME server with a Windows XP thin client. The on the ME machine I can see and access everything on the XP client but on the XP I can see anything on the ME machine.

I do not see any sharing options on the pull down menu in the ME machine (even after right click and properties selected) and don't know where it is. I am sure once I figure out how to share I will be good to go.

There's got to be a way!!!

Got the server connected to the network. Now the server is saying in the "Who's on the network" window that the server (in my case the NTserver) ntserver.domain_not_set.invalid

Can anyone help me with this???

I'll try to help you out, but your giving different bugs. What exactly does it do when you hit the "Start server" button.

Is the problem the server wont work? or the client wont connect? or the client wont even start? any messages from the thin client on startup or does it just dissapear from your screen?

When I hit the start server button the status says "server started" 192.168.0.8:8000

Then under the "Who's on the network" window (in my case the NTserver) it says "ntserver.domain_not_set.invalid"

If I try to log on from my thin client the thin client will look like its going to log on but then just locks up and disappears from the screen.

I just ran a quick test on xnet with xlobby2sd thin client, and everything seemed to be ok. So we can rule out a .net 2.0 connection bug. In your servers.txt file do you have the right ip?

"ntserver.domain_not_set.invalid"

that is interesting, what kind of router are you using on your network?

do you just have 1 network adapter on your pc?

i dont like giving this suggestion, but maybe turn off dhcp on your router just for testing that might help narrow the problem down.

sharp_1, what are the IP addresses of your ME server and your XP client?
Also, open up your xlobby.xml file. Go to the lines that read this:

<startServerAddress>192.168.1.113</startServerAddress>
<startInServerMode>True</startInServerMode>
<startInClientMode>False</startInClientMode>
<startWebServer>False</startWebServer>

And see if the startServerAddress is the same as your machine's IP address.

My ME server address is 192.168.0.6 and my XP client is 192.168.0.9.

I looked at my xlobby.xml file, it reads <startServerAddress>192.168.0.6</startServerAddress>

Everything looks good...right???

Question: yesterday my IP on the ME server was 192.168.0.8 now its 192.168.0.6, is there a way to make it stay the same. I just tried to change the obtain ip address to a manual setting and lost my internet connection...so I had to set it back to auto.

GFORCE is right ,try using the computer name instead of the ip, I forgot about that trick.

In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, click System, and then click the Computer Name tab. That will tell you what the name is.

Can you ping the server from the client???? you should be able to ping with both the server ip and the server name.

I used both the server name and IP address, both ping fine with average of 5 to 6ms. Try the xlobbysd.exe with server.text file to server name or IP address...still no response except for a small blip on the desktop like somethings going to happen but never does.

what if you start the web server on your server, and then connect from your client machine...will that even work?

If you havent used the webserver before, you dont enter a username just the password when prompted.

just connect to it through a webbrowser onces its running, try connecting to it on both the server and client machine actually...the url will look something like this depending on your ip and port you choose.

http://192.168.1.100:8002/
