Of course, I am also curious how to set it up

there really is no 'thin' client with v3

the client is the same as the server, just configured differently.
i am running the client on my tablet, and it works great.
just put it in mimic mode and off you go, all the databases are sent to the client.
there is nothing special you have to do to get it running.

works great, just needs a few little bug fixes.
one issue i have is when you play a movie on the client in mimic mode, no video display is sent to the client.
that is well and good, but when i have a movie with options on the screen, i cannot access those menu items.
now i have to go downstairs to one of the local touchscreens and press scene selection, then i can go back upstairs.
Pain in the arse !!!! still waiting for an answer on that issue, but no one got back to me in a while.

Bill,

We have not forgot about you or the other important items from other users on our list, we are working on so many things right now. I will be in Las Vegas for a whole week at CES with Steven and we will have about 5 different xLobby systems running in the booth so this will give us some time together to go over all of the important issues that need attention. :D

u do need a license for each client but wes and steven hasn't explained yet how we should manage that. like he said maybe after CES

And yes, if u want PDA u have to revert to V2 if not Steven magically pulls out a rabbit out of his hat.

Correct, since the client is a full install, just as the server, a license is required for each client.
it blows the thin client out of the water, the response time is great, even wireless.
i'm not sure how pda will work, haven't gone that route yet :)

Doubt that a pda will work since XL needs .Net 3

Hummm...

Any chances that a PDA client will be available someday? (Windows Mobile 5 or 6?)

If I understand steven correctly no, but maybe he will answer himself!!!!
he mentioned before the pain to develop in compact framework and the source is not availibly so I doubt it

Any update on the client system? I'm really wanting to migrate to ver 3 to take advantage of the new functionality but need to be able to use it on my 3 touchscreen client machines running under remote desktops from the server.

Thanks

Running fine under version 2 - but I want the latest greatest! We all know that if its working perfectly you're not trying hard enough.

What about using Web Access to control V3.

Can you open a browser and control V3 with it? (without a full fledge client)

Hopefully they will make a client version that is free, otherwise we need more licenses!

Add me to the list of XL2/3 purchasers who need help or more development with the client-server aspect. With XL2 I had the thin client working well and the delay was not significant. I'd stayed away from v3 due to lack of time to try to implement, but this weekend I sat down to see if I could get my skin up and running on XL3. XL3 appears to fix a number of things that were mildly challenging with XL2 (like alphabetizing a database correctly so that multiple item entries, like a TV series, are mixed in with the single item entries rather than shoved up front like folders in Windows Explorer). Then I tried to get the thin client working, failing obviously, since XL3 just uses the fat client.

A thin client would be far preferable. However, what does a license cost for XL3 to use as a fat client? I tried configuring a fat client XL3 with mimic mode on but I could not quite get it to work - clearly the client and server were communicating, but launching a video (with zp) only launched the movie that was highlighed on the server, not the movie I was trying to select from the client, so no matter what I navigated to on the client it only launches the same movie on the server unless I navigate on the server. And I never could get any cover art to show up on the client, even after copying the cache over and having xl3 rebuild thumbnails. I assume there is actually a way to make this work but it was the lack of any documentation that is the problem.

Also, somehow, all the databases that were stored in all of my old XL2 installs as well as the new XL3 showed up as databases on the fat client. Very confusing and I am not sure how it is supposed to work.

Please, it would be great if either the thin client were made to work with XL3 or some substantial step by step xl3 fat client configuration documentation was created.

Thanks.
