Thin Client Help

Postby kjheu on Tue Mar 07, 2006 5:20 am

I am trying to use a laptop as a thin client and I am having some issues. With Steven's default skin, the thin client works, no problem. But if I try to use the skin I modified to fit my needs the thin client hangs. There is no error message, but I need to ctrl-alt-del to end the non-responding xlobby2sd.exe.

I have also downloaded several other skins from the website and the thin client works for those also.

Is there some missing element in my skin that I need to include to get the thin client to work properly?

I think we need to know more about what you modified in order to really be able to help you. For start, I would take out all the modifications that I made and start over again. Make a change, then see how that changes the overall network abilities, then make another change. Do this until you find the modification that stopped your thin client from working.

When you say hangs, does the screen load and all buttons are inactive, or does it even get to your default screen? Sorry for even asking this, but before doing all what was mentioned above, do you have Xnet even running in your modified skin?

Hopefully this was helpful.

I started doing almost exactly what you suggested. I removed all screens from my skin except for the main menu. The thin client worked. So far I have added back in about five screens with the thin client still working. I plan on continue tonight untill I can narrow the problem down to a specific screen (or screens).

To answer your question: When the thin client would hang, it would not even show a screen. The screen would briefly flash and that would be it.
If Xnet wasn't running on the server I would get a Cannot Connect Error.

I'm just wondering what kind of things in a skin could interfere with the thin client. I guess I'll find out.

I was able to narrow it down to one screen that was causing the problem. I ended up deleting this screen and rebuilding it (exactly the same as it was) and now the thin client works everytime.
