controlling volume using m-audio delta control panel?

Help each other out

Postby cowanrg on Fri Mar 16, 2007 1:12 am

its not diplomacy, its intelligence. and its an insult to think i would want to spend 4 years in the whitehouse. ignore him folks, he might just go away.

i downloaded girder and that plugin, and it seems to do the trick, in girder. when i test the command, the volume control goes up and down.

samgreco, there is hope!

i just dont know how to get xlobby to talk to girder. i see in the events section that there is a category for girder commands. i dont know what even string to send to girder. is it the long thing in block letters "6D400000000" or whatever? that didnt work... i just need it so when i press a button in xlobby, it sends a command to girder, and thus to the control panel. ill try reading a bit, but its nice to have the info here for someone that might be searching as well.

cowanrg,

First - Glad to gear that there is hope for you. I've chosen another path for my setup, but knowing how to control the Delta card would still be good. I'm just not going to put alot into it. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to control the external devices that I have and integrate the 5 Fujitsu touchscreens.

Second - I think you were a bit hard on Marbles. If you spend time on this board you will see that he is one of the MOST helpful members. And he has contributed quite alot to this community.

I never intended to start a yelling match or to take sides, etc. I just get annoyed with P3rv's attitude towrads others here and the fact that it always seems that his way is the only way. So from this point forward, I'll keep my mouth shut unless it is directed at me.

Having said all that, P3rv has also given alot to this community. I just wish he were nicer about it.

Thanks for the kind words sam.

cowanrg,

I never ridiculed you for having m-audio. On the contrary, as I said, I think m-audio makes a excellent card and is very much worth every penny you can get out of it. But your coming on here stating that you spent 30k on a system, now your trying to find an alternate way of controlling volume? In my eyes, that 30k of equipment should be all that's required, and it better be able to do your dishes, be happy with it, and don't try and re-invent the wheel. Most likely a hardware processor to control the volume will be far more superior to a software solution anyways (no offence to any software dudes). For your last little dig, I really couldn't care less what you spent on your system. People have spent more, and less, in the end, if you get the results that you want, that's all that's important...right?

Secondly if you read P3rv post prior to your little sissy spat, you would have noticed that he was trying to explain that he has an application that in time may be setup to perform the very task that you ask for. Maybe if somehow the mixer software could be supplied to him so he could study it, another plug for the PervTalk sofware could be written up to interface to the m-audio card. Who knows what the future might bring, but it could take away any headache for you or your friend.

Now...don't make me roll up my sleeves...

Time for a beer.

yes, i was harsh, i know it. i just get SO tired of posting questions on forums and getting treated like im an idiot. and its always from people who have nothing to offer.

marbles, in now way was i referring to you, other than the "30k dollar" system comment. i mean, its a bit presumptive to question if i know what im doing. $30k in high end audio is NOTHING, its a drop in the bucket, but its also nothing to sneeze at. i work in the industry, but a lot of this stuff is foreign because im more of an industry guy than a tweaker.

i just think a lot of people feel that multiple thousands of dollars worth of gear is insane and these people are somehow ridiculous for having it all. well, its take awhile, but i have it; it happens. and every single time i post on avs or anywhere else, i always get slammed for having nicer stuff. tons of people do. i saw where a guy had a $500 digital coax cable and wanted a soundcard that had coax instead of optical out. everyone ridiculed him for having such an expensive cable, and told him that a $5 optical cable sounds just as good. (i dont want this to turn into a cable discussion though, those are the worst!).

i just dont like feeling like a leper for having an expensive system. if it were $1500 or something, no one would question my inability to control the volume. and quite frankly, being someone who designs amps and has extensively tested all this out, taking out a part of the chain (preamp, etc) if its not necessary, is great for the signal. going straight from a high end sound card to the amps is much better than going through another box with another set of opamps, from my listening experiences.

dont question what i want to do, or whether what i want to do or not is approriate, just help me with the question. i dont doubt either you or perverted bear or whatever are more than capable, but at this point, its just easier to waste my time trying to figure it out, than to deal with this.

aside from all my "sissy remarks" (you do realize how ironic it is to call someone's comments 'sissy?'), i think i have figured it out.

i downloaded girder 3.29. i downloaded the girder file mentioned here, thanks tswhite70. the commands work just fine, and it seems xlobby can talk to girder, i just need the two to talk to eachother. i found a thread that talked about it how to interface the two, but im still working on it. this is my first time touching girder. here is the thread:

http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=447

sorry for everyone for getting pissy about the whole thing, i just wish i could ask a question and then get it answered. that would be soooooo nice :-)

Hey, my 30k comment may have been over the top, that's why I added the peanut gallery comment along with it.

I wasn't commenting on the fact that you spent 30k on equipment. Hey, get the best that you can. It was just kinda funny, and I couldn't help but thinking...30k....problems....wife....divorce...takes half and sells it on ebay for a $1

Let bygones be bygones...but $500 on digital coax cable  Must have been Monster.

Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents/halfpenny/s worth. I use a Delta card and control it through XL and Girder. It works perfectly and sound quality is very good even although I don't have as high end a system as under discussion. On another note I was onec privileged enough to listen to a custom built audio system where the amp alone cost $1m (it was built by an engineer who worked on Russia's space program) - I have never heard, nor will I ever, anything like it - if you can invest that kind of money in audio gear and enjoy it, good luck to you.

Hope you work out the Girder/XL method if you need more help let me know.
