Is It Possible - pt2 - Stop XLobby removing info from DBase

Postby Myth on Mon Aug 22, 2005 2:43 am

Hi,

I have 2 Pcs with Movies stored on them, with Both shared drives being selected for the Movies database

I have added all the info etc from IMDB, and some personalised info as well .

If PC2 is turned off, and someone (usually No1 son ) presses the database refresh button, I lose all the info, that I've setup, for the movies on PC2

Is there a way to stop XLobby from removing info from the xml file, while still being able to refresh the database? OR should I put this in as a Feature Request?

Thanks

I have the same problem for movies... especially if they are marked as online. Everytime I do a refresh, XL clears all my entries :-( It means that everytime I add a new movie I have to do manually entry in the xml instead of refresh

I'm trying to remember but I think I used to have this problem, and that's why I never use the database refresh button under F2, and I have them removed from my skin.

If I add a new album or movie to my server I rerun the scan under the F2\Basic tab manually. That way I don't loose any of my hand entered info.

I also backup my xml db's on a pretty regular basis, just in case they get blown away somehow.

As for losing the movies from PC2 when the refresh button is pressed - if you are using a refresh button on the skin (instead of F2) you could set up the event for that button to first run WOL to PC2, then delay 10 seconds, then perform the refresh. I do something sort of like this in my HTPC startup (start girder, run WOL to server, wait 10 seconds, start Xlobby on HTPC).

Thanks, both, for your replies

I actually thought of this, but wouldnt you just know it, PC2 is the only PC in the house where Wake On Lan doesnt work. ( Not sure why, as it has the settings in Bios and in the adaptor setup screen! )

and just to clarify
I rerun the scan under the F2\Basic tab manually

So this works differently to the screen button?

Thanks

That's too bad about the WOL ...

<deleted>

I'll have to run a little test just to double check when I get home tonight....

....Just tested, F2\Basic\Import acts the same as the other database refresh methods - if your source is not online the data is removed from the database.

Sorry for the confusion, I guess maybe that's why I removed the refresh buttons from my skin and set up WOL to my server - I knew I did it for some reason!
