XL v3 as Client, hard on cpu

Postby lar282 on Sun Feb 01, 2009 7:06 pm

Hi
Moved to V3 on the master HTPC and I have a old portable computer with touch screen as a remote for that. its modified and flipped around and built into the wall. . I ran the old thin client on it before together with XL V2 and it worked perfect. Now the poor old computer barely loads xlobby V3(10 min to load) and it hogs so much memory and cpu that I cannot use it as a remote.

So Q for Steven, is there any way of stripping XL down when using as a client or can u give me any hints on what in XL will need most memory or cpu so I can try to remove thoose features. I hate to go back to V2 now but I guess I have to if I can't run the client on the touchscreen laptop

thanks in advance

What is the specs on this portable computer. You have istalled the .net framework 3.5 correct ? I have an old machine at the house and it runs fine. Steven keeps an older machine in his basement for testing just so we can get a good idea of how new versions will run on older equipment.

mine is a poor old celeron 448MHz with 128 Mb memory -:(

stripped down xp even more, removed all plugins and got loading time down! to 8 minutes. Still unusable and the max memory installably in that computer is 192Mb

curious about your specs. I guess it is the memory and not the cpu.

Bare minimums are:

System Requirements
Windows XP or Windows Vista
1 GHz processor, 512 MB of system memory

I have mine running on a samsung Q1 tablet, Intel Celetron M 353 processor with 0.9 GHz speed and 512 ram.
cpu usage is 20% and runs sweet. connecting thru wireless. Runs faster when hardwired but that defeats the purpose.
latest .net

i tried the animated background but that was a bad idea, not good for small tablets.
other than that, the response is instant. Dont forget to check your internal network, make sure there are no CRC errors or packet loss.
i am running the full install in mimic mode.

BIIIIIIG diff between 128 and 512 Mb memory

Seems like the client will not reconnect after a hibernation. will try some more before reporting. Maybe u can try it also for me
I really need to use hibernate since the loading time is almost 10 minutes.
