Stuck on splash screen - Databases

Postby deancuk on Sun Jan 15, 2006 12:40 pm

Hi,

Once I import my music and reload xlobby gets stuck on startup at databases.

Ive read earlier that this may be mp3 file curruption, so ive rang checks and found some with 7% curruption or below, now Ive been remove these one or a few at a time, but cannot find the culprit or culprits, its very frustrating and its taking me ages.

I use mediaplayer, showshifter and winamp and they are all fine, but I love the functionality and look of xlobby (espeically the colby skin - thanks colby!)

Is the anyway xlobby can tell me which files it doesnt like? or should i just manually carry on.

thanks in advance to you all.

Does Xlobby start without a music database? I suggest like always, to remove half, import, remove half import etc. to find which its in. Also you may look at the database xml, and search for "weird" characters.

Glad you like the skin, Good luck.

As somebody pointed out earlier, a good test is to double click on .xml file (database) that you suspect is making problems and open it in microsoft IE. If it opens, it should be OK, otherwise IE will report errors, so you know it;s bad database....

As Colby suggested, check to see if it will load without your Music database. If it still doesn't load, try a different database. For some reason, the databases in Xlobby can get corrupted, particularly if your OS suddenly shuts down (this more typically messes up the xlobby.xml file). To test your database to see where the corrupted lines are, just double click the file. If it is corrupted, it will give an error message around the spot in the file that is messed up. Good luck.
