Is this possible?

Postby Bill Lott on Fri May 27, 2005 10:43 pm

I'm running Windows Server 2003 on my main (server) computer. I have two Fujitsu 510 touchpads that I would like to use with xLobby client. One is in the kitchen and other is in the home theater. I would like to run Remote Desktop (due to speed issues with the touchpads running Windows 98). I have setup separate Remote Desktop sessions on each - 1 called Kitchen and the other Theater. If I run them one at a time they work great.

I have different server.txt files for each session. The one in the Kitchen with a default menu of the Weather and the one in the theater defaults to Movies.

This seems to work OK until l I run them both at the same time. Both change to the same xLobby page. Is it possible to run two remote desktops independent of each other? If so - HOW? We’re having a big party this weekend for my daughter’s graduation and I'd love to be able to show my xLobby setup to our guests.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

That is the main drawback of Remote Desktop, 1 log in at a time.

There is a work-around to running more than one log-in on Remote Desktop.
Here is a thread that discusses running dual users:

"I would like to run Remote Desktop (due to speed issues with the touchpads running Windows 98 )" -had to put a space between "98" & ")" to avoid " 8) "!

If speed is the issue, have you tried the webserver? I would use the kitchen (or both) as the webserver client.
Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions..

I'm able within Server 2003 to log in as two separate desktops. Each has its own screen and can run other programs independently. I'm able to access the Homeseer web logins independently with no problems. It’s only in xLobby that the two setups become one when a screen is changed on the other computer

I like the web idea, but how do I get xLobby to open in the web full screen? When I run the web server it appears in only a small window.

Thanks..

Hey Bill, add the -k switch to your shortcut to launch IE in kiosk mode.

Even if I open in Kios mode xLobby still is not full screen. It only takes up about 3/4 of the available browser area. There is still a lot of white space within the browser viewing area.

Any luck with this? My only other thought may be Tools/Internet options/Advanced/Multimedia/ Enable Automatic Image Resizing

By the way, are we still on for the First Louisville Area Home Theater Meet on June 16? I have only received a few PMs. I will forward them to you by email so you can send an official invite with directions and all.

Is It Just Me?

Can someone test their web server to see if xlobby only takes up about 3/4 of the available screen space within their browser? I still get a lot of white space around xlobby.

And yes Briands - the 16th is still good for me...

Have you tried changing the resolution on the web server, standard is 640*480. Instructions are oin the webserver thread.

Hi Bill If you are still around, you seem to have a setup like mine, only smaller, I have 4 wireless clients and two 2k3 servers.

Can you get DVDs across the RDP? My Theatertek and ZoomplayerPRO (DEMOs) both error out whern trying to initialise the VRM9 (DirectX Video Renderer) when in Remote Desktop Connection.

They load the VRM9 renderer and work OK when accessed from the Sever itself.
Also if you drag a Video_TS into Zoomplayer (Media Mode) it will play over RDP.

Do I have a setup wrong? Later I'd like to get TV too.
