Zones

Postby Skibum on Thu Sep 30, 2004 10:51 am

I saw from the information that you can sync 2 zones together, even if they are 2 different computers, and not just 2 soundcards in the same machine. What exactly are the steps to do this? When I connect 1 xlobby to the other, and "sync" the second machine is trying to play from the path of the first, and naturally that path is not on that box, so although the second winamp is trying to play, there is nothing for it to play.

Thanks for any assistance. I really appreciate it!

That would explain why it is not working for me... :)

Thanks!

But I believe it should work if you

* make a share on 1 PC
* import your database with network path instead of drive (i.e. NOT D:\Music\ but \\SHARE\Music\) on both PCs.

I did and it kinda worked. Kinda. Well. there was a 1/2 second delay between the 2 PCs playing the same song...

Not that I have 2 very fast PCs for this, one is 1300Mhz notebook and the other 500Mhz P3 Dell GX1. But both have 100Mbps cards over 3Com 100Mbps switch, so networking shouldn't be problem... I'll have to try it with a faster PC...

When I tried it even with quick pc's, p4 2.8 the delay was just as bad hnce my commnet that it wasn't done yet, there was also problems with stopping and starting the music and relaseing the zone afterwards for non-synced play.

To share the database it doesn't have to be in a shared folder but it does have to be \\server\music style as oppossed to a mapped drive. The xlobby dtabase of the music is the bit that is shared between the machines with xnet, this bit works fine.
