Unable to get anything to play or download covers/info

Postby fizzasist on Sat Sep 16, 2006 11:49 pm

I just found out about XLobby and it seems like it will be perfect if I can just get it configured correctly.

I already had all of my Cds loaded onto my PC and have been using Media Player to play them so I created the db in xlobby and it found all of the music titles but will not DL any of the album art. I updated the spiders and tried again and it says it is downloading the info but it does not show up.

I also cannot get it to play anything. I do not have winamp installed and I can do that if necessary but it looks like it should be able to use media player....I just can't get it to work.

I also have PowerDVD installed and it will not work either.....can anyone help a newbie out there??

Thanks!

To put it a little more tactfully, you will have much less headache if you use Winamp or Foobar for music and Zoomplayer or Theater Tek for movies. There is no built-in support for Media Player, and though you might be able to get it to work, there really is no reason to.

I'm sure you guys are right......just wanted to try to use the free software I already have installed.....but MPC and Winamp are free so I will try those...

I did install Zoomplayer and must STILL be missing something because I cannot get it to actually PLAY the movie I select. It opens up Zoom player but just sits there. Must be something extra that I am missing.....

I'll keep bangin' away at it today......

I don't use ZoomPlayer but I understand it needs command lines. Try a search of the board.

I managed to get MPC working just fine for movies so thank you for the input on that!

I still cannot get music to play or download the cover art/info for all of my CDs......

Any ideas out there? This is the last piece to get working!

Did you install Winamp or Foobar? Did you goto XLobby Setup/General/Foobar/Winamp Zones and setup the location for your player?

For coverart, do you already have the covers downloaded and in the directories with the music? Have you tried spiders from the skin you are using? Better yet, have you tried spiders right from the database edit screen (Setup/Database then edit the music.xml file, select your album from the left hand list, then click on the Spider tab, select your location to try and download.)

Opps rereading your first post, it states you have tried spiders, but is that within the skin or from setup?

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for the tip on the Winamp zones! That did the trick and got the music playing!

I tried the spiders from inside the setup as well as inside the skin itself.....no luck.

I think my problem is that the CDs were originally ripped using Media Player so they are in WMA with no cover art stored in the respective directories......so I think I have a couple of choices:

Re-rip all 300+ CDs or
Download coverart for each CD individually.......

Both are very distastful........I think I will put it on my SOMEDAY list

Right now I am happy that the movies work and the music plays. I think I am only going to use it for video anyway.....that was my original intent.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP GUYS!!!!!!
