Help each other out

track order on various artists cd

Postby gingellr on Wed Sep 27, 2006 9:41 pm

Hi,

I have a problem i cant get to the bottom of, must be something obvious i am missing.

Nearly all of my various artists cd's that i have set up are in the wrong track order in xlobby. They are all flac files

If i check the tags the tack numbers are correct and in the right order.
Xlobby just seems to be displaying and playing in the wrong order.

For example the open cd screen would show

10 - track 10
3 - track 3
7 - track 7
1 - track 1
5 - track 5

etc

So xlobby knows the trck number just listing it in the wrong order.

All my other cd's that are not various artists are perfectly ok.

Any help would be welcome.

Thanks

Richard

Possibly being sorted, since it only occurs on various artist cds, by track artist prior to track number? You might check the artist for the tracks to see if this seems to be the case. That should be easy enough to change in the database sort order. Mine sorts Artist(for album), Album name, track number, track name.

Just a thought.

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

The sort order is the default:
artist:albumname:tracknumber:trackfilename

I have got to the bottom of it though, so dont konw if this is a bug or by design?

The problem was that the artisit tag on each file actually had artist/trackname in it, i changed this to "various" on all tracks on that cd and now it is sorted correctly.

On a standrd cd the artist would all be the same hence they were ok.

I would of thought xlobby would arrange the cd's in folder order as it does my folders are artist then album name and then sort the tracks by track number and not by artist of the individual track.

Is there a better way to have the sort setup so it behaves that way?
Or do i need to change all my artisit names on my various cds?

Thanks

Most likely this can be changed in the Metatags, but I don't understand how those actually work myself :)

I've been meaning to post something asking for instructions on modifying the metatags, etc. Hopefully someone will post a reply to this and give us both some insight!

I noticed the same thing just in the last month or so with my Various artist CD's. I could be wrong but I don't think it used to be this way. Makes me wonder if it got introduced with the new multi level category code that Steven has implemented. Seem's like a bug to me.

Maybe at the track level the artist should be listed as something else like "trackartist" instead of "artist" (ie artist should be the album artist, in this case "Various" for all the tracks, but "trackartist" would be the actual artist for the track...)?

Did anyone every figure out how to fix this?

I just imported a couple Soundtracks and such that have a different artist for each track. So even though I have the default sorting mechanism (artist:albumname:tracknumber:trackfilename
) it sorts like this:

Various Artist
-Album Name
--Artist
---Track Number
----Track Filename

Has anyone figured out how to get the second iteration of Artist out of there without manual db modification and without breaking anything else?

What i've done is when the details open, the list is resorted. There's often a slight delay, but it works. I change the sort order to tracknumber first. THen upon return to the other screen, I reset it back to the default.

not a bad idea....there's an event that manipulates sort order?

Set Sort, I think. Under XLobby. I'll try to remember to look tonight at exactly what I did and where. I believe it's an "on open" even for the details overlay.

I'll post details tonight

For track numbers, always try to use a tag utility that can prepend tracks with "0" i.e. 01,02,03,...10 and they will be correctly sorted.

Tag&Rename does the job

i don't think that is the issue at hand here....it's ignoring tracks at this point and sorting perfectly by artist. It's almost like it reevaluates the sort priority at each level....so it gets sorted into Various Artist because that's the artist for the album when it imports it. Then it takes all my Various Artist albums and sorts them by Title with no issue, but when you select an album to view the tracks, it goes back and sorts all the tracks by artist....if i fudge one so that there are two tracks with the same artists then it sorts by track number..i'm going to try the change sort, i think that will do the trick

changing the sort order on the fly works perfectly, i don't have any speed issues either, it's unnoticeable. I just set a enter event and an exit event on my details screen. Thanks!
