Persistent PPC connection suggestion

Got an idea, post it here

Yeah, the PPC's ability to handle all of those conditions mentioned earlier is definitely the ULTIMATE and it IS a lot to ask.

To begin with, I'd just be happy to have the client app have an offline screen which it would display when something isn't working properly, and the ability to send the magic packet. That way I could launch the PPC XLobby app first, and fire everthing up from there (I already have XLobby start up when Windows starts) so that should take care of most of my needs right there.

I guess it all comes down to how many people want this, and whether Steven thinks it's a good idea AND is reasonably easy to implement. Personally I'd LOVE it, but my primary control of XLobby is via PPC so I'm biased!

Regardless though, it would be good to have the client able to handle connection problems a bit more robustly.

I'd like to add my voice to this feature request. The ability to wake up the
HTPC using the PPC would be nice. Having the thin client deal with
connection issues, priceless...

Here's my real-world example. I wake up my HTPC, and turn on my PPC.
I launch the thin client on my PPC using a hard button, but because I
didn't wait long enough for the wifi connection to establish, or for the
HTPC to wake up, I get an error message. WAF immediately dives...

Now, say I get an Xlobby splash screen with a message "Connecting...",
wait a few seconds, my PPCmenu screen pops up, and we're in business!
Add a "Quit" button to deal with cases when there truly is a problem,
and a "Wake" button to attempt a WOL, and we've got a truly excellent
solution.

I'm still hoping Steven will look at adding something like this. I know he's got a lot on his plate at the moment, but I remain hopeful! :D

I'm all for this too. Having the PPC crash if xlobby isnt' running on the server, or if I simply allow my PPC to shut off doesn't go over well with the wife. Adding the ability to boot up the PC via lan would be another bonus, but not a requirement for me.

I recommend that anyone having trouble with less than stable PPC wifi cards upgrade to .net sp3, a mate has an offending card and he reckons sp3 has stopped the feezing problem that required a hard reset.
