Web interface

Got an idea, post it here

Web interface

Postby andrewhannay on Wed Apr 06, 2005 1:58 pm

Hi,
I would like to see some sort of web interface so that I could control xlobby from any handheld device that has a browser. A bit like the way WAWI controls WinAmp.
Cheers
Andrew

yah I've been also thinking of this by expanding the client/server stuff in xnet. Not sure how much interest there is.

a web client would really expand the base of client devices. I'm sure Palm users would find it handy. imagine using the new hacked psp to control xlobby. Now that would be cool.

there would be one resriction though, as it would just be static images with image maps you wouldn't see "button-down" states. Or any sort of animation.

True, on the upside though static images without animations should transfer relatively quickly.

I did have scrolling text/paging next on my list, but I think I will do this because it seems more interesting. Plus it will give me a chance to try to optimize thin client stuff again.

COOL.. I've been thinking about writing a plugin to do just that myself. If could be done naitive to XL itself then thats even better !

My reason for wanting a web interface is so I can use the 3COM Audrey devices I have. These are not M$ based so no .NET just a simple web browser.

A simple image + image map is fine , but I would think it wouldn't be to hard to expand this to slice the image into a table and have rollover/mouse click image changes (via Java)

Keep up the good work.

I am SOOOO into this idea. There are so many cheap touch screen devices, like the Audrey, out there that could be used. Great idea.
