HELP! - Really struggling with DVD Playback

Postby PhilB on Mon Dec 29, 2008 12:35 am

In XL v2.0, I used girder and Zoomplayer ant that worked fine. With 3.0, I am trying to eliminate all these 3rd party applications. I have been trying to get my new skin to play ripped DVD's and I am having some trouble getting the new setup to work right.

I have touchscreens that are direct connected to the HTPC. I use a Gigabyte video card to connect 1080 to my Hi-Def TV. This is monitor 2.

In XL setup, display, there is reference to "multi-monitor video playback". The list is blank for some reason. I cant figure out how to get the movie to automatically use the second display on the HTPC. I think I have the graph setup correctly.

When I launch a movie, it plays on the primary monitors (touchscreens).

I use PowerDVD codecs (if that is at all relevent).

Zoomplayer had a setting to configure which monitor to output to.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
PB

Hey Phil,
glad your up to V3, more testers the better.

i had many issues getting things up and running dvd wise, mostly my fault. but i've gotten pretty good at getting the dvd working.
the dvd graph does play a role, but not the one you are thinking. the graph does not determine which monitor to play the video on, rather what drivers it will use to play the video.

I am not sure of the Xlobby way of configuring dvd playback, but i can give you the Billberet version.

i have an ati video card with component out and dvi out. my dvi out goes to the touchscreen and my component out goes to the plasma. the first step to get this working is having the hardware correctly render the video to the correct monitor, if you have an ati card the catylist control center will have the options to do this, if you have an Nvidia card there is a similar program on the nvidia side to do this, i do not have an nvidia card so i cannot help on that one.
is your Gigabyte video card ati or nvidia? there will be a setting that will tell the video card to push the video to the second monitor.(theater mode)

once you correctly get your video sent to the proper monitor, then it will work correctly inside xlobby.
to my knowledge, xlobby does not have the configuration ability to send video to specific screens. that is all done at the hardware level.

then inside xlobby, you can choose your graph to match the program you use for dvd playback.
On the file types, i use cyberlink to play the video_t files, so in the setup (F2) i added a separate
file type video_ts and i associated cyberlink power dvd to play that filetype. then i removed the video_t file type from the default player. so when a video_t is played, cyberlink is always chosen as the player.

i hope this helps a bit

That explanation helps. The card I use is nVidia based and the software is called "nView Desktop Manager". I see a way to create a specific application profile for PowerDVD and then force it to always launch onto the 2nd display. I will need to give this a try when I get a chance tommarrow.

As for v3, I am loving it but have reported several bugs....Steven fixed the weather update bug fast which is great for the winter:)

There are several others that I reported but my system is working for running:

MP3 audio
Weather (waiting for a fix for extended maps)
XM Audio (via Foobar). I would like to eliminate Foobar but cant until XL3 has support for XM native
RS-232 control of Sonance mutlizone amp (native XL RS-232 allowed me to eliminate Girder)
Video (pending)

next up: Insteon lighting

Thanks for the help,
PB

No this did not work. The media player does not launch to the 2nd monitor. If I select a .vob to play from the desktop (monitor 1), ZoomPlayer starts on the TV as expected. I went back to ZoomPlayer as I could not get the Cyberlink to see the 2nd monitor at all and the options to allow it were greyed out. I saw lots of people with this issue in the cyberlink forum. Zoomplayer worked the frist time.

Still confused.

What ver of Cyberrlink are you using. I know that Zoom 6.0 has the ability to use PDVD 8 codecs. This may allow you to keep using zoom and play other foramts. Larry

i use cyberlink power dvd 7 ultra
dvd playback is flawless, no issues.
Wes made me a graph file to use with it.

here it is in case you need it
http://xlobby.com/news/wp-content/uploa ... filter.grf

just remember that multiple monitor support is done at the hardware level.
once you configure your hardware to display video on multiple monitors correctly, no matter what program you use, it will work.
that was my issue, i did not get my CCC (catylist control center) configured correctly, once i did that, multiple monitor issues went away.
Xlobby does not currently have any way to push video to secondary displays. (as far as i know of)
just search on my posts, there is detailed explinations on my issues, and how i resolved them.
