Using DVD Profiler 3 with free Xlobby

Postby jlr2000 on Sat Oct 27, 2007 11:08 pm

I'm trying to use the last PreRelease default skin, and I understand that the "Direct" button won't work (per Steven), but I thought the normal Spiders would work. Right now I get strange Thumbnail results (not really important since I don't use them) but I get no "information". Ultimately I'd like to import my DVD Profiler 3 info, but I haven't cracked that nut yet.

I actually upgraded to DVD Profiler 3 (full version) and then the import didn't work with the free XL. I thought I should upgrade XL to the latest version, which I did, and then realized the change in direction/prerelease versions. The new skin allowed me to get the information for movies directly so DVD Profiler import wasn't important...but now that I'm going back to the Free XL, I'd like to figure this out....

Any help, links or direction is appreciated.

Thanks.

You will need to use jovial_moods utility to convert dvdpro3 to freeware xl.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I've done a ton of reading and testing, but I need some clarification on a few things:

DXC will not preserve my Movie "Parameter" information, ie: the harddrive path to the movie files, correct? From everything I read and tested this is true. And there is no way to have XL "import" that information.

I'm hoping there is a way to get my DVD Profiler 3 data working with my XL imported data without having to go thru each entry....

Thanks!

Okay, for using DVD Profiler 3 with the free version of XL I will be using Tom Gaines tool to convert a 3.0 xml file to 2.x file...here's a post for reference:

http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task ... &PageNum=1

It is also referenced on this forum, I had to do some digging. I tried it and it worked first try, no hiccups. Now this tool actually is for doing a whole lot more, but I just need the file "converted" so I can import back into XL. 1 extra step, but not bad at all....

The tool is called Cinematic Collection Viewer and there are two downloads, 1 plugin and one viewer...you want the viewer:

Thanks again Sharp_1 for the information and getting me started on finding a solution.

Excellent solution!!! I have just realized that jovial_mood's utility is broken, so this will be a perfect alternative. Just wont be able to convert as much info as dxc converter did. Great job finding this!!!

It would be nice if, when things get a little settled, Steven could take that quick look back at free xLobby and fix the import function to use the new format. One thing I noticed with the Tom Gaines trick is that cr/lf and some other things don't get converted correctly. They get written to the 2.0 format with control characters that xLobby doesn't decode, so you end up with one long paragraph, &amp control codes for certain special characters, etc. so there is some editing to do when you get it imported to corrected the formatting.

Just a guess, but I doubt Steven will be spending any time on the free version of Xlobby any longer, and understandably so. Any chance of someone creating a good conversion tool for this? I have no idea how the XML works/looks, but someone has to have a clue on how it should be converted. From reading the DVD Profiler forum it doesn't sound like they intend to put any "export to 2.0" functionality in either. It would be great if someone with the skills could put a fully working conversion tool together....

Yes I agree, it would be great if jovial_mood could take a look at his dvd profiler conversion utility and make the needed fixes but I haven't seen jovial around at all in the last few weeks/months???

best way for conversion to work would be not convert and import in same utility (IMHO). Best way would be a converstion program you could trigger from an event that would then create a V2 xml that free-xLobby could import directly. again, just my opion :D

I know most know this.....Tom's new version 1.5.0 fixes this during his 2.4 export. All works fine now.
