XNET Problem with Multiple Connections

Help each other out

You only want to start one machine as a server - the rest should only be configured as connecting to the server - not also starting as servers.

The xlobby server has nothing to do with Terminal Services. When you tell xlobby to run as a server it will then share it's xml databases to any xlobby client machine attempting to connect. Terminal Services is enabled in Windows and is part of the OS.

Yes, XNET is to allow fat client's to sync up winamp/foobar zones. The thin client is more about controling the actual Xlobby pc.

In my case I have 1 system with XNET server running and 2 others that connect as fat clients so I can sync all 3 to play the same playlist, but I can also play movies from a single database onto any of the three pc's. My ppc then connects as a thin client and I can control the server pc. But it cannot play any of the media on the ppc.

I think I need the XLobby Server running on all 3 PCs so that my AirPanels can connect to them from their respective secondary Terminal Services sessions, right? Trouble is, I just want to mark ONE as the "server of record" for my XML databases.

Maybe there is a better way to do this?

You cant do this yet, its something I've requested as a new feature.

Most of my system is setup from a main server, the sperate machine is the HTPC in the lioving room which is mainly used to run the pj, dscaler and dvd's so I currently have this running as a seperate database to the main server as opposed to using the xnet technology.

To run the music in sync across the house I have a zone from the server with long phono's to the HTPC rooms amp and dont use the HTPC.

glamdring,

How well can you synch the 3 zones you have ? Are you running multiple instances of Winamp on the server so that the two fat client zones are directly fed the audio into those zones OR does each of your otther two fat clients run its own Winamp application and control the audio in those two zones (ie: using the XNET approach with audio being streamed to each of the other two PC's) ?

I was hoping to use XNET to synch a total of four zones (with a PC in every zone running full Xlobby and Winamp etc), but when I tried to synch just two zones I would get timing problems (delays etc) with the synchronization. I am wondering whether I still have to go the multiple instances of winamp off the server feeding each of the fat client PC's to achieve proper synch .
