Help with new import Artist/Album feature

Postby tsjdesign on Tue Jul 13, 2004 2:29 am

I've been playing with the new artist/album import feature, but have run into a little snag when assigning an event to the button that displays the thumbnails.

Currently, when you choose a thumbnail - whether artist or album is current, the event attributed to the button also launches. What I would like to have happen is that the event assigned to the button is not triggered until the last set of thumbnails (albums) is displayed.

If someone can point me to the correct setting, or has a workaround for this if a setting is not available, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! Todd

Anyone?? Please??

I'm totally stuck, gritting my teeth

I'm also stuck with trying to display tracknames when importing with the artist/album method - what I would love to do is have the left category button navigate the album thumbnails (first artist, then album), while the right (category?) button displays what's "inside" the item that is highlighted on the left (if I'm navigating through artists on the right, the left shows the albums available (without having to click)... If I find an artist that I want, I click on the thumbnail, bringing up album thumbnail navigation, and the right panel now shows tracks on each album as I navigate. Then I would like to click the thumbnail and have the album start playing while the tracks on the right update with currently playing track as usual) .... I guess that's a lot of stuff to have in parenthesies :D - hope it is somewhat clear.

I've tried to reverse engineer just about every skin out there, but importing by artist/album seems to make a mess of each and every one!

Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!! Todd

I think I found most of what I was looking for in the default skin (I forgot about the toggle swiches, and had the "play" toggle selected which does not work very well with artist/album view).

I guess I really don't understand the edit catigory tab very well - I still haven't discovered the relevance of the Info Screen field, and the items between the %% signs aren't always consistant. I'll try opening the xml's to see if they shed some light, although its mostly gibberish to me. Also, what is the difference between the Name field in the edit category and the button id field in the general tab?

Have you had a look at the database by using setup (F2) , database and the edit (I thought) you can see how xlobby has imported the database

Edit one of yor databases, you will see most database items have a "field" or "variable" what ever you want to call it....using the %% signs will allow you to have access to that stuff. So when you use %artist% it will pull that info from the current db item.

Thanks! I did find that, but what was stumping me was how to tie one category button to another - like if one category button was showing the artists, the other was showing the albums which coorisponded to the hightlighted artist tile. I ended up just copying what was done on the default music skin, then cloning that page and setting the event on the artist catigory button to goto the cloned page. I set the cloned category button to tie its info to page one (I now understand what the info screen field is for) and the event to play album. Works perfect!

Now a stumper - for playlists, I would like to choose an artist and display all the songs available (two categories into the heirarcy) - any ideas how to do this?

Thanks!! Todd
