very dumb question - how to copy items within skin editor

I know, dumb. I never have edited a skin before, and playing around with the homeseer plugin so need to create items. I figured it would be best to copy and paste things to keep the look and feel nice, but if I press crtl c and crtl v the focus goes off the item (textbox, button, etc). How the heck do I copy and paste within the skin editor (didnt see an answer in the skin edit guide either...)

Just like in any windows application... Shift (or was it control?) pressed down while "painting" selection, then ctrl+v to paste and ctrl+c to copy...

EDIT: yeah focus goes off... but it still works, u just have to have something selected when u copy to new page.
