jowaldo's skin beta sample

Postby jowaldo on Wed Mar 24, 2004 4:29 am

Well I've been home from work sick the last few days, and I decided to do some heavy work on my skin. I got quite a bit done, but the more I do, the more ideas I get and I see this process could be never ending.

I did almost all the graphics in it, except for some of the icons that some of you may recognize, but all of the buttons are custom ones I made. And from many different things I got ideas from.

Anyways here are some screenshots, and yes I will release it hopefully very soon, I just want to clean up a few things, and do the ppc screens which I just started on.

To keep the images high quality I won't post the screenshots in this thread. This page is about 2MB in size.

btw, this was done with A40

Please post any questions/comments/constructive critisizm

HOLY HECK! That is an incredible skin. I love what you did with the overlay controls, especially in the Music section, the 4th shot down - that's brilliant. I've been trying to figure out how to make this an easy program to navigate for people that are unfamiliar with it, but keep the screens uncluttered & still have a great looking presentation - I was beginning to think it wasn't possible. You did keep the spot for screen stills in the movie section, right? Great work & yes, I would love to get a copy for my own use (please). :D

Yeah I kept a spot for the stills. I haven't done much work with them yet, since I don't care too much for the imdb stills. And its too much work to go out and find and add them manually ;)

Yeah, true, but I went ahead & did it. Heck, a couple of movies I actually made my own with screenshots pulled from Theater Tek! We should get some sort of file sharing system going - it would certainly be easier on everyone. I know that I would be willing to since I can't really contribute from an artistic standpoint.

Anyway, not trying to hijack your thread. Looks awesome & I can't wait to get my grubby hands on it.

I said it before in the chat room, this is an amazing skin. jowaldo has put alot of effort into this and it shows :) If you want any indication at the kinds of skins xlobby can do...you dont need to look much farther then this one...it's just all around great.

Since I know for a fact this skin works (it pays to hang out in the chat room) and is NOT a photoshop dream(like some other htpc apps out there  ), I have upgraded jowaldo's rank :)

I like the overlay design - simple up/down navigation and exit.

I put my exit buttons in the middle of a set buttons to cut down on the remote key presses required.

I am humbled in your presence. WOW. It's beautiful. You MUST share so that we may learn. This is the direction that I wanted to see in skinning for XLobby. I just didn't have the skill or the time.

Steven, I think that jowaldo needs a rank all to himself :)

WOW! You are really talented - Do you do this sort of thing for a living.

I am about as artistic as my cat - If i ever post my skin I would have to name it 'stolen skin' as i nicked a bit from here and a bit from there.

Can't wait to start nicking from your skin - Ha! Ha!.

Keep up the awsome work.

Later
Simon.

Simon,

I did take ideas from a few things, but thanks for the comment. I have never done this sort of thing for a living, I always thought I wasn't creative enough to do something like this, but I'm starting to think I should look into something like that for work.

Hopefully somewhat soon, like in the next week or so. I will also separately release the photoshop psd files too probably to help the skin to grow even more :)

Nope, haven't added sounds. I guess I could, but sounds are something most people can't agree on what is good or not. I think I'll leave that for everyone to customize on their own ;)
