Control AMP with Xlobby and Girder

Postby Dj Elmo on Sun Aug 20, 2006 5:25 am

Hi all. Just a quick question, before I spend money!

Is it possible for me to place a button in Xlobby, that when clicked, sends a command to girder, which in turn, via a USB-UIRT, sends an IR command to my home theatre amp, so that it will switch to the appropriate input?

Thanks

Yes, I do that. It doesn't even need Girder though. You can set up an Event to drive the USB-UIRT plugin to transmit the IR codes to change the amp input directly.

I also trigger the event from screen Enter Events, so that when I go to my TV control screen the amp automatically changes to its TV input, the DVD screen the DVD input etc.

Yep. No need for Girder. Xlobby and the USB-UIRT do this very well.

Cool

Thanks, looks like I'll be investing in the UIRT

Thanks again

Just FYI, depending on the positioning of the UIRT and the amp, you may need external IR emitters to aim the signal at the amp's IR receiver. The UIRT has a 1/8" / 3.5mm output jack on the back, which IIRC supports up to 2 of these type blasters (you can split them with a headphone splitter, if sending to multiple components) w/o needing a repeater.

Thanks Rembetis.

I wonder if there is anywhere in australia i can pick these emitters up from?
I can find them in packs with the actual transmitters, but don't need the units. If not I'll buy them from parts express.

How many blasters can the UIRT support?

Thanks again

Well, if you have Radio Shacks there, or something similar, you can always make your own out of an IR emitter, a 1/8" jack, and some wire.

I'm not 100% sure about how many. I seem to remember the creator guaranteeing 2 to work, but I just read a poston their forum in which someone has used 3 with 100% reliability. Do a couple searches over there, or write the creator directly. He's very responsive to emails.
