Xlobby Load fail - database load freeze

Postby Chazotta on Sat May 29, 2004 8:34 am

Thanks guys for helping me with the music database and cover art import - everything works fine, except that now when I close Xlobby and try to run it again it will not load properly. It stops when trying to load the (music) database. The only way I can get Xlobby to run is to remove the music database file from the database directory in Xlobby and then I have to re-set the music path and import the files and the cycle continues.....

Can you help me out?

cheers

Try to load the xml file into 'Internet explorer'. It is very fussy over xml and will point out any 'xml' mistakes it finds - like unallowed charaters.

If it finds any note where they are and load the xml into notepad and correct it. Save and try xlobby again.

I have had this a number of times on characters that are not allowed to be in an xml file.

Twit, you were right again.

The XML file say for 100 CD albums is quite large and there is no real way to ascertain where the errors are. Hence I had to import 10 albums at a time and try to narrow down which albums were causing problems.

It turns out that the problems are in the Tag info, by the use of one of the apostrophes in the track name of the file. It is weird because the standard apostrophe is okay but the one which is slightly curved is not??The error is visible in the XML as a sort of box.

I haven't quite eliminated all of them yet. Instead of editing the XML, I am editing the Tag info, so that when you import, the XML will be okay. Whereas if you edit the XML, if you have to re-import the files for any reason, you have to redit the XML. This would be undesirable.

Thanks again for your support.

Hi,

For importing my AMC database, I made a little utility that converts a "standard ascii" based xml database to to a xml-utf-8 compliant with xlobby.

http://users.skynet.be/fa426932/temp/ant2xlobby.exe

usage "ant2xlobby input.xml output.xml"

Don't know if it will be helpfull for you.

Loading Databse - Lockup

Postby Slewfoot on Wed Oct 13, 2004 5:17 pm

I'm having the same problem with Xlobby locking up while loading the music databse. Does anyone know what character in the title would cause this besides the ` ? Is there any other reasons that would cause a lockup like that? I wish the import function would check for invalid characters and reject them, or at least let me know. I really want to get this thing working, but I keep getting this same lockup problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Found the problem!

I found the problem. The trick was to take the music.xml file and bring it into the MS Debugger included in the .NET Visual studio. The debugger recognized an ivalid character in the file. I repaired it and all works well! I would like to suggest though that a feature be added to scan for invalid characters during import and reject the entries that have invalid characters. Send the output to a text file so that they can be repaired and re-imported.
