One button with 2 IR codes

Postby billberet on Mon Jan 19, 2009 2:19 pm

Hey everyone, got a question,
i have 2 cable STB's, each under it's own zone.
cable box 1 = zone 1
cable box 2 = zone 2

currently i have 2 remote control pages, so depending on which cable box i want to control, i have to go into a different page.
this means double the development because what i do on one page, i have to do to the other.

my question is, can i have one button with both IR codes on it, (zone 1 and zone 2)
some kind of trigger would determine if i use zone 1 IR code, or zone 2 IR code.
this way i have one page controlling both boxes.

any ideas?

Bill,

Are you using the USB-UIRT for IR control and if so how are you independently controling the same STB that uses the same IR codes.

Hey wes,
yes i have uirt
that device by default has 3 zones built in, one is the main box, and the other 2 are on a sterio jack in the back, left and right channels are separate zones.

so my cable box has an ir code of 12345 (power)

by just playing the default code, it defaults to zone 3, the main box.
if i add Z1 or Z2 to the prefix of that code, it looks like this

Z212345
This way the UIRT knows to use the back right channel, which is zone 2.
the back left channel is zone 1. giving a total of 3
so i took all my codes and made a copy, and manually added Z2 to all of them.
now i have a full set of IR codes that only use zone 2.

so inside xlobby i have 2 pages, one uses the code 12345, and the other page uses Z212345.

i'm looking for either being able to append the (Z1,Z2) to the existing code on the fly.
if something like that is even possible. or the easier way to go, have both codes on a button, but some (variable, trigger) tells the button which to use.

Bill,

I just wanted to make sure what device you were working with. So whats really needed is a separate event for each button that you can toggle from one to the other like a master ir output for each page. This could create several issues if someone created a page with mixed IR output events. Maybe a better idea is to clone the screen and then have a feature in xLobby that can modify the Z1, Z2, Z3 parameters on the fly for each button if it has an IR event attached to it.

Let me think about this some more and see if I have additional solutions for this. :D

if there is a way to append the code on the fly, that would be the ticket.
then i could pretty much do anything as far as zoning is concerned.

then i could have one remote control page, and 3 buttons for zone 1 2 3
depending on which zone button i press, that changes the codes being sent.

thanks for looking into this for me

I think we have a few good ideas for this and are working on a way to easily change the IR zones that output from the USB-UIRT, one method will be that if a button has a IR code attached the there will be a simple way to edit the event individually or by a group. Any buttons that have IR codes could have a small text overlay on the corner of the button that indicates Z2IR on it for example or even for RS232 or other information that the button controls.

As soon as we have something working, I will make a post. :D
