Just want to make sure I understand what you have done.

1) You've set up the plugin for your area

2) You've created a refresh event using the plugin command setup for the following
Code: Select all
Plugin
Xoapweather

Command
refresh forcasts

3) You associated that event to either a button or screen.

If that is correct, you can go back to the plugin setup and view the log file to see if there was any access to the internet.

Also verify if other functions that require updates like webcam images, or even the Xweather plugin work.

Check your firewall settings. I had a horrendous time when I first started using Xlobby and trying to get updates. None of the above mentioned functions would work, but all other internet functions outside of Xlobby were fine. It ended up that I was using Winroute at the time and must have set up some very strict filter rules. Since moving to a hardware router, I've had no problems. That's why I'm saying again, check your firewall/router settings.

Also what version of Xlobby are you using. I think Steven found a bug in his code from way back and has since been fixed...but I don't think that is your problem.

Along those lines, is it possible to put a timestamp in there somewhere showing the last time it updated? I have xlobby set to restart (the whole computer in fact) every morning at 3:00am. If it gets an update then it would start the forcast with the next day, but how do I know that I have the latest weather updates and not looking at the same weather as 3:00 in the morning?

thanks marbles for the quick reply!

i am using the most current version of xlobby(well.. within a couple of weeks anyway)

yes i did set a button up with the command "refresh forcasts" and no worky

as far as checking for other things that require updates i don't use them.

xlobby accesses the internet without a problem for the radio streams though.

i will check my firewall later when i get home (good call i forgot about that)

i have been doing what bmblank has been doing by having my computer shut xlobby down at 1:00 am and start it back up at 1:15am to reset every thing but at 2:30 in the afternoon i go to check the weather and it still shows the moon :? and i know its sunny outside and atleast 30 degrees warmer.

thanks for the replies

You have to remember, radio streams are not done by Xlobby, but by Winamp/Shoutcast (or whatever software you may be using for streaming). Which leads me to believe you are having similar problems to what I experienced.

Try the Xweather plugin. You don't have to set up a whole entire screen, just a couple of settings and tag the extra command off the same refresh event to update Xweather as well as Xoapweather. Also try a different skin that already has webcam images setup (saves the time in trying to set your own up).

Here are my posts on the problems I had:

Hope this all helps.

Checked the skin I"m using (Badabings Burlwood) and the refresh command is built in and it IS forecast with the e.

Also in xoapweather, which this uses, there is a variable called lastupdate. I've added it to my main screen so I know when it was last checked and can more easily tell if it's hung up since it doesn't continue to retry after it once can't make contact unless you manually refresh.

Hey yeah, thanks for the lastupdate variable.
I'm running KISS, and that has a refresh button built in as well.

Also keep in mind the original coder obeys all of weather.com requests for retreiving from the site. You won't get a refresh every time you hit refresh. I believe current conditions can only update every 20 minutes and full forecast every couple of hours. I don't remeber the exact timeframes.

Yes, lastupdate is the last time the data was updated on the site, NOT necessarily the last refresh time. Don't confuse the 2 :D

I have a refresh problem as well with XoapWeather, but only after the computer wakes up from standby. See also:
