Something funky with server

Postby bmblank on Sun Oct 15, 2006 12:09 am

So I've got an interesting problem... Hopefully somebody knows what I'm going through. I was having some troubles with dvds and all that and then it seemed like I had it working pretty good. The PPC thin client works great, I've got dvd controls for theatertek on it and added some next and pause buttons to the now playing screen on it. We just found out when we're on a PC thin client and we choose what song we want, we click it to bring up the overlay and lo and behold, the overlay opens on the server and not on the thin client... I'm confused. I'm gonna go in there and check and make sure the buttons are going to the right events and such, but still, that doesn't seem quite right. Hopefully somebody can help me and hopefully I'll get a quick reply. I usually do.:)

Oh, by the way I'm running badabings KISS skin. Not many mods yet. Especially since I just reinstalled x not long ago. Thanks

What version of xlobby are you running? I know that in the later versions, Steven included a check box for only server events in the event window (upper right corner). I wonder that for the event your asking to open the overlay, if that box has been checked and the event is only opening on the server.

I personally haven't used that check box yet so I'm not overly sure as to what effect it may have.

Hope that helps.

That's possible. I looked around, but I wasn't really sure what I was looking for so I didn't find anything.
I should be using the latest build, since I downloaded and reinstalled not too long ago, but I'm not totally sure which one we're on. I wish I didn't have to work so then I could check it and try that right now, but I need some money to support my habit. :) Thanks Marbles

Well I looked at that checkbox. After FINALLY finding the event that opened the overlay (option_show_track I believe it was) I found that the checkbox was indeed NOT checked. :angry face:
Gosh, I don't quite understand it.. What other possibilities are there? It works find on the ppc version. I guess it's not that big of a deal because we even run the ppc version on a pc in a window, so then we can move it out of the way, but jeez, it just annoys me that I can't figure it out. Anyways, thanks for the info but unfortunately its looking like that's not the problem. Anything else??

Well, just narrowed it down to the KISS screen. It sure is simpler and I like it alot, but I checked it and it happened on another server (another one of my tests) and it happened the same way. I think the next step I'm going to take is to actually look at the xml file and see if anything looks out of the ordinary. Anyhoo, just thought I'd bring that up.

Change the command in the option_track_show from a 'show global overlay' overlay command to a 'show overlay' command with the same parameters to open 'music_track_options'. This should fix your problem (tried it here on my computers and that seemed to do it).

Another option is to remove the options_track_show event from the musicview category Events (tab)/'Click Event', then select the *EDIT* MUSIC CATEGORY on the music screen. *EDIT* Select the Category/General tab, and next to 'Info screen' it will most likely say 'musicdetails'. Change this to 'overlay:music_options_tracks' . This will also cure your problem (again tried it on my computers).

Now why did the show global overlay command not work...not to sure as according to Colby's Event Variable document the 'show global overlay' command should show the overlays on both server and client pcs.

It was also explained to me in more details here.

Hope this was helpful.

P.S. The KISS skin is awesome...a great skin to learn from.

*EDIT*
I saw you post in the skin forum to Buddabing. I don't think this overlay thing is a bug with just his skin. I think it is a bug with the show global overlay command. But Steven is so wrapped up with Xlobby3 and not taking care of plugging up XLobby2, I'm not even sure if it is worth reporting anymore.

:)
That did the trick. Kinda makes me wonder what's up with the global overlay. Oh well, I'm happy with that working now. On to bigger and better things. :)

Thanks again marbles.
