How Do I Turn off my Internal DVD Player?

Postby bymyhand on Fri Apr 06, 2007 5:49 pm

I just downloaded a new version of xlobby and instead of using Theater Trek like have been doing in the past it tires to load my dvds in an internal dvd player. I like that you guys are adding new things to xlobby but the internal dvd player is still not up to snuff with my theater trek program. How do I disable the internal dvd player so I can setup my Theater Trek and Daemon tools again? In the future a quick option to do this would be very handy.

The easiest way to make it go back to the way I had it before is to go into setup, then under "events", find the skin event "skin->movies->play movie new". Right above that one is the old one called "play movie", drag the "execute" event from the old events to the new one, and get rid of the new events causing the internal player to be used.

It should be have like the old way since now it will use the old "execute" command. Doing this isn't very user friendly right now we will make it easier in the future, but for now thats how to do it.

Thanks, I will try that out later tonight. Mainly I find that it lacks external Dolby and DTS output out of the spdif port. Since I plug this into my AV receiver I need it to support surround sound. Also I don’t see that it supports any other kind of local surround sound card capabilities. Also Theater Tek integrates with my remote wonder, has prenatal controls and has an option to change the brightness and other color settings without it affecting the rest of windows (good for certain movies). Finally, you guys probably already know this but when I tried the controls in the DVD player most of them didn’t work. As well as when I pressed restart it crashed Xlobby.

Honestly, I really like Xlobby and it’s really powerfully but it’s about 8 out of 10 as far as difficultly to work with. I would so so so like to see better documentation and updated docs before a big piece is added. The last release I have of xlobby is back in August of 06 and all the new stuff looks really cool but I can’t find really any info on how to use it. The previous post is a perfect example. I don’t mind reading but if I don’t have anything to go by I am left to the mercy of the forum. :-P . I see a whole bunch of options and the ability to do a whole bunch of cool stuff but it seems like a very steep learning curve to try to create or edit something. I would say the biggest thing I would want in xlobby would be more/current/better docs and to have a dumbed down setup interface that would make it pretty easy to setup most things in xlobby. And maybe even some advanced stuff. Then just have something the enables advanced options or something. Just my two cents.

Wes, I haven't yet tried the new version of xlobby as the one I have is all working Ok for now but I really like the fact you are building in a media player into xlobby.

The essential feature for me in the media player is the ability to customise exactly what directshow filters are used for any particular type of file - like Zoomplayer's customised media mode. The ability to use a directshow filtergraph built with GraphEdit (as suggested by P3rvtB3ar) would probably be the simplest and most powerful method to use. If xlobby does not include this ability then I'll probably stick with Zoomplayer.

I hate to sound unappreciative of what must be a huge amount of effort, but why so much focus on integrating a "from scratch" media player into xlobby? To me, it just seems something of a tangent to be going off on. There are already such great external options for media playback, that unless those feature sets can be matched or surpassed, I hardly see why there's a need to reinvent the wheel.

Sorry to be a critic, but it almost seems to me that an integrated media player good enough to replace many of the external options currently available would basically be a whole separate product beyond xlobby.

I agree with Zap. Unless, internal video player is for multizone video distribution. Then go for it. For now Zoomplayer or TT are much better options for playback. Xlobbys is way to generic.

+1

I can see the point for getting audio playbaclk sorted (as long as milkdrop is still useable), but i think video is a bit differant.

The in-built players are going to have a hard time mixing it withg dedicated bits of software.

what about vmr9
will it support ffdshow
what about vmr 9 renderless
what about the new vista rendering mode
will it go HD
will it let me use custom graphs
will it....

You get the picture.

I think some nice eye candy effects and a more attractive default skin whould help more.

I'll take the other side of this coin, just for a moment. I can understand WANTING to include the default/built-in player for this reason, there will be people that don't want to configure multiple pieces of software, just load XLobby, play music, watch vids, see the weather, etc. They want a simple, clean, MINIMAL configuration approach to this.

The option DOES need to be in there to switch the internal players (Vid, Aud, Both) off easily for those of us that DO want to use external players.

Just my 2 cents :D

Zoomplayer

Postby gargoyle67 on Wed May 09, 2007 8:27 pm

I did as suggested above and dragged the execute from the old events to the new one, and zoom player plays the movies now, but when you exit movie zoom player/xlobby locks up and I have to cont/alt/del to close xlobby ? Also in the future will you be able to integrate zoom player or other media player to the xlobby internal player. I.E you can play movies in internal interface using external media players ?
