Xlobby won't load

Postby Shaun on Fri Mar 11, 2005 4:29 pm

First, I did spend a couple hours searching this board for answers. Didn't find the answer so please help me!

When I start Xlobby2.exe nothing happens. The pc continues to function normally. When I ctrl-alt-del the Applications tab does not show that Xlobby is running. However, xlobby does show on the processes tab - using 0% processor and roughly 9-10 megs of ram. If I try to start it again, I get another entry in the processes list.

I do have .NET (it was installed with one of the windows updates).
I did unzip all 3 of the downloads on the download page.
I have the same problem on 2 different pc's.

Other notables:
Both pc's are P4's (one 2.4 other is 3.0).
Both are WinXPpro and up to date with all service packs and updates.
Both are running Norton Antivirus and Firewall.
Both have numerous video editing and conversion programs as I have started to save and edit programs from my DirecTivo.

Help! I really would like to try Xlobby.

Still not working.

Okay, I've tried disabling and/or uninstalling every bit of software I've thought could be preventing Xlobby from starting up. Still no luck. :(

Unless someone has a suggestion, I'll have to give up on Xlobby until I wipe one of my systems or buy a new pc.

Xlobby does look like a great alternative to MCE2005 and I hope to be able to use it sometime.

Have you checked the firewall settings on those computers? Once I installed SP2 I had to Unblock Xlobby. It actually prompted me but you may have a different setting. Try disabling the firewall (temporarily) and see if Xlobby starts. If so, then you can add an exception. I believe the Exceptions tab has a button for "Let me know when firewall blocks a program".

Just noticed you mentioned Norton Firewall....what I mentioned was for the Windows Firewall. Wouldn't know how to change the Norton, should be the same concept though. :)

Do you see anything at all?
You should get the splash screen at least if you can see xlobby in the process list.
Like Atlas says, the firewall is a likely cause of your issues, Norton is usually configured to prompt you as to whether to let an application access the internet, perhaps a pop up warning has appeared behind another window, or you have configured it to not allow ANY none configured exe's access to the internet.

The first thing xlobby does on startup is try to talk to the internet.
