Fat Client No mp3 cover art

Postby hazmatte on Mon Jan 08, 2007 3:35 am

Hi -

I'm still trying to figure out Xlobby, it's a great program, just needs some serious documentation for noobs like me.

Anyway, I've got my mp3 collection on my HTPC in the living room running Xlobby server. I'm using a touchscreen on a desktop PC in the dining room as a fat client remote to control music playback on the HTPC.

So it took me awhile to figure out how to get it to work, but I was finally able to get the fat client on the desktop PC flatscreen to play music on the HTPC, but for some reason no album artwork shows up on the fat client. I know that all of the mp3s I'm playing have been tagged with cover art, so any help on how to get the cover art to show up? If I look on the HTPC, it shows the cover art just fine.

Also, I'm still unclear as to why I have to go to Setup->XNet and select the Winamp instance running on the HTPC and click on Control Zone, before the fat client will control playback on the HTPC. Is there any way to have this behave this way by default? And I'm completely perplexed with what Synch All is supposed to do. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks!

On your HTPC, when you import your music collection you need to make sure that you use a UNC path such as \\MyHTPC\Music Folder. In order to do this you will need to share out the directory and make sure that the user account on the Fat Client has access to this directory. If you look at your Music.xml database on your fat client you can find the coverart item for each album. With your current setup it probably shows something like C:\Music Folder\Album Name. After you share out the directory on your HTPC you'll need to reimport your music collection, go to Setup (F2) and click on Add. When the Browse for Folder window opens you'll probably have to drill down to something like Network Places>Entire Network>Microsoft Windows Network and find the folder that is shared out and select it. After you've imported your music collection (and permissions are correct for the Fat Client) the coverart should show up.

As for the XNet stuff, I have the same issue would like to do if there is a way to automate this.

Thanks for the help, it's working great now. Still need to figure out the XNet issue to connect to a zone without entering the setup screen, but I'm getting there.
