System requirements?

Postby meter on Sat Apr 30, 2005 10:08 am

I'm a newbie. I am also going to second the suggestion over on the Documentation section that System Requirements be published. I have searched the site and couln't find anything... if I somehow missed it please forgive me.

I tried installing Xlobby on my Acer TravelMate 508T laptop (Celeron 500MHz) running Windows 98 SE and strange things happened when I ran the program. In particular: the floppy drive would be accessed every three seconds or so and I couldn't get music files to play. I was able to build a database of music files, but when I tried to play them, nada. I associated mp3 files with WindowsMediaPlayer, made sure the pathname to the player was correct and still nada. Given these problems I didn't try any other kinds of files. I *do* have .NET Framawork 1.1 installed.

Is Xlobby supposed to run under Win 98?

If xlobby runs on win98 with .Net framework than youre over the first hurdle. As far as your music not playing, try using winamp or foobar as the media player instead of wmp. you will point to the winamp.exe in the setup of xlobby. One of the reason your floppy drive is being accessed may be because of where the database or offline media is referenced to. Make sure there are no references to the (A:) floppy drive.

Hope this helps.

I went through everything I could find and could not find any references to the A: drive. Is it possible there's a buried something-or-another that I missed?

I figure that the floppy drive problem needs to be sorted out before going any further because it's pretty much a deal killer if it can't be fixed.
