Movie Database Refresh and Import button possible?

Postby jlr2000 on Fri Nov 30, 2007 5:26 am

Not sure if this is even possible, but currently when I add movies I have to do the following:

Hit F2
Select Databases
Select Movies
Select Refresh
Goto Import Tab
Select Movies Database
Select Import

As well as click through the completed refresh/import overlays......

So here's the question: Is there a way to have all of that done with one button press or hotkey? The process is the same each and everytime, so I'm thinking this could be possible, but I don't have an understanding of the inner workings or code behind XL to begin to know where to look. Anyone have something like this in place or have suggestions on where I should start reading/looking?

Let me know. Thanks in advance for any help.

Just click the refresh button on the movie screen if you are using the default skin :)

But that doesn't include the DVD Profiler Import, does it? I'm trying to get both actions incorporated.

Thanks for the reply.

a database refresh should pickup changes in the freshly exported DVD Profiler database. There is no need to "import" each time. Import only needs to be done if you've decided to dump your xLobby database completely and start fresh.

But all the details regarding the movies are imported from DVD Profiler, so when a new movie is put in the system I need to import the movie data. A refresh will bring the movie in but I won't get the dvd cover or movie plot details until an import is done. Is there some way to initialize an import the way there is to do a refresh?

I have never had to "import" to get a newly added movie to update and get the information from DVD Profiler. Refresh always pulls in everything for me. As a test/verification (version 2, not Free lobby so I didn't have to do the profiler conversion). I ripped a new DVD I had purchased, add it to profiler and exported the collection again, refreshed in xLobby (using refresh event from button on movies page). it added the new movie WITH all the necessary profiler information.

I then did the xml conversion to the 2.4 export, went into free xLobby and "refreshed" again, and it picked up the new movie and all the profiler data.

If you are trying to import from DVD profiler 3 into the freeware xLobby you will need to use the DVD Profiler Utility by Jovial_mood. This utility will covert your DVDpro3 database into the v2.4 format and also brings over even more information then the standard xl import did. Take a look at my post on the tread to see how to somewhat automate the process (two steps, one: export from dvdpro3, two: run dxc.exe from xl) and your done.

you can also use a conversion tool call CCViewer from Tom Gaines. This works wonderfully and you get the full dvd profiler imported as normally in xLobby. You convert the dvd profiler export THEN you import as normal into xLobby.

Enjoy, it does work, honest :)

As cmhardwick says you can use Tom Gaines' util to convert Profiler XML export database 3.1.1 to 2.4. You can even script it...........

Download collection viewer v1.5.1. http://www.tom-gaines.de/
Here the Profiler forum thread on how-to....the simple batch scripting is at the end
http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task ... &PageNum=1

Also for me I don't want the user (WAF) to be able to REFRESH movies. I do want them to be able to REFRESH pics and MP3s since these reside on a Networked uPNP storage device that gets updated via other PCs. However, the movies are ripped and stored on the HTPC in local HDDs. Thus, my procedure is to create a new movie directory, rip to the folder, add to DVD Profiler, export updated XML, import XML to XL (for XL FREE you need to use XML conversion util first). Thus for me this is a fairly static process of entry that I create the new movie entry and keep control. Thus, the only buttons in XL used after that are.........

Hit F2
Select Basic (in XL FREE....under Media in XL PL7)
Select Delete DB under movies section
Select Import under movies section

That's it....it will rebuild entire database in few seconds.

for scripting to work, make sure you have DVD Pro 3.1. I still had 3.0 and it didn't work (command file support wasn't added until 3.1).

And theKochs, why are you deleting and re-importing the entire database, you can just refresh and it will add the new movies. I do this all the time. No need to re-import (in my case) 300 movies just to add 1 new one.

for me...baby steps.....I wanted to remove variables as I learned XL. As I played with many items (eg. Spiders*, Imports, etc.) knowing that the DB was gone 100% I could then be sure of the data I was getting was from the latest run...and not a garbled combo. Since the import (like you) of 300+ movies only takes 10-15 seconds it wasn't a big deal. Guess I can change this going forward. :)

* As FYI...you saw from my other post in PL 7 section downloading INFO from Spiders creates a Item.XML in the movie folder and really mucks up (overrides) either the profiler import or the profiler imported data/XML.

I understand wanting the full import of clean data while testing :)
Also, I didn't know that about the new spiders, but I don't use them anyway. I strictly import from DVD Profiler.

I even worked int eh scripting to the "refresh" button on my skin by adding the OS Execute command to run the batch file then putting in a (in my case) 30 seconds wait before running the normal database refresh. Works great, but looks wierd because xLobby "locks" while the wait is there.
