Thin client command for monitor choice?

Postby Jay on Mon Nov 17, 2008 12:48 pm

Have thin client running on server's 2nd monitor touch screen in mimic mode so all XL content is viewable on big screen.

Prob is that each time I start the client, I need to hit an UltraMon hot-key set to move client to touch screen. That means going to server cabinet, opening door, getting out keyboard... No good for WAF.

Havent tried but maybe....

Saving your last known window position is easy in XP if you do the following.

1. Launch the app. Yes, it will go to the "wrong monitor" as usual, but that’s okay.

2. Put the program into a "windowed" state (meaning not maximized).

3. Drag the window to the monitor where you want it to appear when launched.

4. Hold SHIFT and click the close button at the top right.

5. Re-launch the app. It should appear on the "correct" monitor this time.

Holding SHIFT and clicking the close button saves the window position of the app you just closed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
or this one...

If I create new shortcuts to the desktop icons on the monitors and place these in the startup folder, I end up with the 2 applications running on the primary monitor.

It seems that when you "click" an icon on the 2nd monitor, Windows "knows" to launch the application on the 2nd monitor. Does anyone know how to tell Windows to start an application on the 2nd monitor from the startup folder?

Option 1. Yes, but I know of no way to window XL, or fat or thin clients. I can minimize them, of course.

Option 2. I do have the shortcut on the 2nd monitor.

No, but thanks anyway. Maybe Vista doesn't behave the same way in Shift>Close.

From memory right click on program you want in start menu and you have the options for Ultramon for the particular program allowing you to designate how it opens and what monitor you want it on.

Here Jay, try this exe file

readme file inside the zip. Just put the exe file in the same dir as your xlobby2sd.exe, and it will start that on your SECOND monitor
takes 3 arguments. exe_file Widht Height

http://www.xlobby.com/files/Shaggy/startappsecondmonitor/start_app_on_second_monitor.zip

if it doesn't work let me know. It works here for me.

Lar, that did it. Thanks so much!

Andy, thanks to you too. Since I had UltraMon on trial, I'll go with Lar's approach. Was only using UltraMon for monitor switching.

I know you already have it worked out but I figured I would share what I use since I run XL on one monitor and a thin client on the second. Look at cmdow:
http://www.commandline.co.uk/cmdow/index.html using the /MOV and /SIZ parameters you can achieve what you want.

Hope it helps someone!!!

lar,

I'm setting up to release a new version of a skin, which would use your application. Would you mind if I included the app with the skin install? It would just make it easier, otherwise I will reference this post.

that's exactly how i have my server set up, not the client. there is no thin client in V3, just a client.
my touchscreen has xlobby running and the tv has the output.
all done thru the hardware of my video card, for me, all configuration on multiple monitors is done outisde of xlobby.
